how to remove paint from caliper?

I just bought 300zx calipers that are painted red....but during shipment, some brake fluid must have gotten on them, because the paint was bubbling and peeling off on parts of the caliper....whats a safe chemical I can use to remove all of the paint from the caliper? Is it safe to immerse or submerge the caliper in a cleaning fluid? Or should I use a steel brush to scrub the paint off? Maybe with a dab of brake fluid? I dont want to damage the caliper! Anyone? Thanks!

Just use some good ole brake fluid, and yes a cheap old wire brush, cause youll probably throw it out after. Brake fluid, even though its a very effective paint remover, wont just srtip it off instanly. You might have to wait a couple hours for it to start bubling up the paint. Another thing you can do is use some commercial stripper, but take gret care not to get any around the piston dust boot, or the rubber on the brake lines, as it might eat away or deteriorate them.

What you can do if you are afraid of messing up the rubber cause accidents do happen. If you have one of those grinders, but a steel rush wheel and put it on. clamp the caliper and take it from there. That thing will remove all the paint and any rust that may be there. I did it on my stock calipers to that they can be painted and it works great. Good luck.
