Back Passenger window went off Track, Heard I have to replace whole motor??
Man I just been having bad luck with my Max latley first off with the whole ECU thing(check my post) and now with my back passenger window. The window came off track, but the motor still works...I was told that instead of taking off the door panel and putting window back on track that I have to replace the whole motor is this true?
My back passenger window it came off track it doesnt role up or down anymore it actually just falls down. The motor will still run but I heard instead of just taking door panel off to place the window back on the roller track you cant because you actually have to replace the whole window motor.
If it fell off track, just take the panel off and put it back in. If the regulator (pulley system that the window moves on) is broken then you will need a new one. I just replaced the reg in my 3rd gen. Took 1 hour and $60 to couretesy nissan for the part. You don't have to replace the motor, just unbolt from old regulator and bolt to new regulator.
If the window falls to the bottom of the track, then it is likely the regulator has failed.
If the window sort of moves up and down a little slowly like it is sticking and you can "help" it up or down by hand, then it is more likely the motor. I have had both problems.
The flex coupling inside the motor gear drive failed on one side. I pulled the unit and opened it up and found the coupling had turned into sticky tar. Replaced the window motor with rebuilt for about $100 from a local auto parts store.
Later, the other side failed. The window fell to the bottom of the door and off the track. I found the regulator's top pulley was damaged so badly that the cable had fallen off. This cable is fastened to the regulator by a plastic clip and the plastic had deteriorated allowing the cable (and window) to slide freely right to the bottom. The replacement regulator was about $60 ordered from an on-line Nissan dealer.

Okay Yeah my window just falls to the child saftey line and stays it wont move up and down but when you try to roll it up or down you can hear the motor running so I'm guessing from what you say it's just the regulator. My nissan dealer in town I think is just out for the money....Keeps referring me to replace motors for the window and tells me my ecu is dead ect....

There is next to no financial incentive for a good mechanic to do diagnostic work. Shop owners want mechanics to signoff on as much repair work as possible since they can bill you at standard industry rates, not the actual time it takes. A top mechanic will book 75-80 hrs a week and get paid for it all, but only spend 35-40 hrs in the shop. Diagnostic work is usually straight time, so oddly enough, doing 2 hours diagnostic work will cost the mechanic money! Instead, he could have booked maybe 4 hrs doing repairs plus go home on time and get paid twice as much. Sooo, shortcut the diagnostic work and overkill on the parts. Mechanic is happy, owner is happy, customer is usually happy as long as problem got fixed. Smarter folks invest some of their own time researching like you've done here!
If you have basic mechanical know-how, a metric socket set and some screw drivers, you can probably do this whole repair yourself and save yourself a bundle. Plus you'll be learning about your car in the process!
if you dont mind on driving to jersey i would give it a shop for you, and if your hot ill do it all for free...thats if your a hot girl( i already looked stupid once when a bunch of us thought someone was a girl when it was really a guy on this forum)
