has anyone raced a 99-01 GTI VR6

my buddys got one we havent had a chance to race yet but i would be curious on what the outcome would be.
ive got a 96 se auto

his is 5spd
im stock and so is he the VR6's are pushing about 175hp i believe
im just curious to who would win.

I know my 99 5spd is haster, as I have raced a 2001, but I don't know about an auto. Try and find out, unless your afraid he will bug you about it.

i think the auto would be a disadvantage

to me though
but he's not the best stick driver either i can take him off the line easy i just hope i can stay infront long enough

i think the time difference is like 3/10 of a sec (in favor of the GTI vr6), but i would still try.

I would try. Especially if he can't shift. If he misses a shift you would make it imbaresing. Add a few mods and youll beat him everytime.

Hmm the 99 GTI Stick ran 0-60 in 6.7 seconds against the SI in Road & Track. That pretty much puts it even with a pre 97 Maxima 5spd. Tough race goes to the driver, but since you got auto you're gonna lose.

IF..he can drive that thing..

i raced one before..

and by like 50mph..he'll start pulling ahead..

that when ur gonna wish u modded ur max.

BrianV: i think he is talking about the VR6 not the 1.8T GTI.

i raced both Jetta 1.8T and Golf GTI, VR6.

Jetta 1.8T: I still got the video somewhere, let me ask SX7r to post it.

Golf GTI VR6: i raced one with Neuspeed ECU, Intake and Exhaust. off the line, we were dead even until 60mph, i walked him after that. GODD, i love my 3rd gear.

My friends 98 SE maxima ( auto) was beaten by my other frineds stock VR6 ( stick) it was a 99...........

Once my chip is in, I will be able to get a car legnth on my friends moderately sooped up 95 max se with MY 96 gti vr6, which is also moderately sooped up (i/c/e and engine mount)
