hey luda...I did mine this afternoon and since the lip material was all rolled up when I bought it, when I unrolled it and put it on my car, there is alot of wrinkling in the lower part of the lip...was urs like that at first and then straightened out eventually...or what did u do to make it straight and wrinkle free?

Does a 4.0 gen gonna try this soon? I want to see how it will look on a 95. I did a lil paintshop but I'm not very good so didn't turn that well
This is awesome... I might give it a try, ImStockBaby! I went to home depot and they only had 4 ft lengths also, how did you connect multiple pieces? What did you use? It looks like it's 1 piece! How many feet of the trim is needed? How did you secure yours?
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

2. Available at most Home Depot, Lowe's or any other major carpet and flooring supplies.
3. It's relatively cheap (120' roll for $40 bucks)
4. Color: Only available in WHITE, BLACK and IVORY if by from retailer.
But we can order it in BLUE and GREY as commercial business.
5. It's very flexible and easy to work with...if you wanna paint it, then you must first prep the surface before apply primer. Paint alone WILL NOT stick very well on this type of material.

Nice work on this. I was just looking over your wheel paint post as well. You have done some nice work on your car, and on a fixed budget. Despite the fact that you don't sink a lot of $ into it, it represents a lot of what this site is all about. Thanks for being a true "comtributor."
I wonder if this Plastic Promotor will work fine on the Stillen lip? My paint has chipped off from encounters with ramps and what not.
I also suggest using rivets to anchor the cove molding.

So I want to just let everyone who attempts this mod know that you will not have to primer the plastic material to paint it. What you need to do is use a product called (PLASTIC PROMOTOR) a company called Bulldog makes it in a arysol can just like spray paint....
Also, for those who think the screws look ghetto you could always use zip clip's to hold the lip on. They are those little clip's that hold your carpet kit in place in the trunk. I'm sure you can find tiny one's with a big enough head to keep the plastic material from popping off & I bet they would look alittle nicer then screws & washers.
Good job Ludacris & Imstockbaby looks nice!!!

Instead of screws, I would suggest using rivets. It will give it more of a race look to it but one drawback is that I never seen rivets in black color. They are all in that aluminum color. I wonder how that would look under the stillen front lip.

luda: you are da man! THat ******* mod looks so ******* sick I am ******* speechless, (or am I
).
ImStockBaby: your lip looks slightly different than luda's, or is it just me? It seems a little thinner????? Also, what kind of fogs do you have? Please give me details if you can, perhaps even how you installed them, did you have to drill anything? thanks

I will obviously do this, as soon as I finish finals this week.
In the end, it doesn't take a genius to shell out a **** load of $$$ and buy a stillen or any other lip. This, however, does take some creativity and that's what makes it soooooooooooooo special. Honestly, this thing grew so much on me that I wouldn't even consider buying a stealin lip now.

the red max with the lip sold it for me. i definantly wil be trying this mod. that car looks very nice. i cant wait till i have some time off so i can go ahead and try this. i hope to see a 95-96 try this out so i can see what it may look like. anyone want to make a write up so this can be put in the stickies. this is a great mod.
just a heads up.
I just got back from the Home Depot to check out the material. The material is very soft. So soft that even just an inch without structural support will distort under a load (read wind resistance).
A fix might be to buy some long rubber, 1 inch thick material to drill into the bottom of the bumper to use as structural backing material.
"L" brackets would be spaced too far between and would still allow distortion at road speed.
Anyone have any ideas about adding structural support?

I understand the concept behind a structural backing material, but wouldn't that sort of defeat the purpose of the lip?
The lip is a very cheap mod, even if it goes bad, it takes at most 30 minutes and less than $5 to replace. I know that a rubber backing material would stiffen the lip, but then again why would you want to?
IMO it's a good thing that the lip is soft and that it is as flexible as stated all throughout this thread. That way I won't have to worry about destroying the lip when hitting a curb while parking for instance.

In regards to paint. I have painted the front SE spoiler on my previous 87 Max and it held up ok.
I used a car body moulding bonding agent spray can, "Bond Aid" which I got from Auto Zone. Then sprayed the spray paint over top (multiple coats + clear) - again auto spray paint from Auto Zone.
The paint was good for about 9 months, when it started to show cracks and flaking due to parking curbs and perhaps rain and wind speed. Flakes were small and quick sprays somewhat retouched them. I have since sold the car so don't know the status.
The plastic of the 87 Max spoiler was fairly hard but still flaxible. The wall moulding is very flexible so i have my doubts about long term quality when painting it.

Below is a pick of the painted spoiler.

Think of the force placed on your hand when you stick it out the window at 45mph with fingers together. This moulding would feel similar forces but I don't think is firm enough to stay in the same position as when at rest.
A backing material can cost $5-10, too. And make sure the car looks good at speed, in addition to looking good parked.

But of course the only way to know for sure would be for me to check. I'll definetly get a friend to drive my car on the freeway while i drive alongside to check whether it starts buffetting, etc. after finals are over.

If the stillen front lip is urathane the plastic promotor is deffinitly the way to go. If it fiberglass I still think the bulldog will work fine, it is an adhesion promotor, so I'm sure it will bite well into fiberglass as long as the surface is cleaned & prepped well before you spray the bulldog on.
W3RD!

I didn't do a great job installing it, BUT damn it looks good. And ya know what? It scrapes in my F'n driveway! Nice to know though, cus if I shelled out the cash for a Stillen lip and scraped it everyday I'd be mad. Props again to Luda.

BTW did you guys not use screws? is it holding up good? I was kinda scared of it falling off or something...but it looks pretty secure..

Maxima10to1, my car is exactly like yours. Good job on the install - looks absolutely sick!
...suggestion: you need a silver mesh grill from home depot now and your car will look 10x better
before I forget, what did you use to stick it on there, just tape alone? If so, what kind of tape? Please, I want details because I'm definitely doing this soon. Thanks in advance.
