I have a 97 GXE, my fuel make a long hesssing sound for about 10 seconds or so every time you turn the car on, even if you turn on the car and turn it off right away and on again, another 10 sec. Is this normal or is there something wrong with the pump. also the car is hard to start after you drive for a while and let it sit for about an hour or so. it's take about 5-20 of cranking before the car will catch, and when it cold, like in the morning, it start right up, with no problem, it just when it's hot and starting to cool down. If anyone with problem could point me in the right direction. The stealship told me it might me my fuel pressure regulator?????? Please help.

Mine does the hissing sound all the time, even with the car on. I can definitly hear it. Must be normal...

 

Whenever you turn the key to the "on" position, you should hear a hum from the fuel pump, this is normal; it's preassurising the system. The hard start's may also be caused by a failing pump, or clogged filter.
