Knocking noise coming from front left wheel (brakes) ???

Hey guys,
I have been having this really annoying knocking, scraping, noise coming from the brakes area on the front left wheel (driver's side) when applying the brakes slightly. If I put just a bit more pressure, the noise goes away. I can ''feel'' the noise through the floor and the pedal. It just goes knock, knock, it seems to be at a specific area, IE the noise slows when I slow. I tried removing everything but I did not find anything... Can anyone point me some stuff to verify ? I'm a bit clueless at this point...

1996 GXE 5spd, 285000km

Thanks

I have a similar problem though it comes and goes. I took the car in to have it inspected but this noise is weird...as you mentioned, it happens with a slight tap of the brake. For some reason, my Max makes that noise when I turn the steering wheel as well.
I know that the calipers/brakes makes a scarppy noise when its wet or when the car hasn't been driven in a while...but so far...after the guys took apart the front...no problems found.
I don't know what this could be either...

mine is on the passenger side front wheel.
exact same thing, grinding / popping noise when the brake pedal is only slightly pressed. It sounds really bad when i turn too at slow speed while the brakes are applied like pulling into a parking spot. I hate it. I am going to change the brake pads and use more brake anti-seize to see if that helps.

I have the same noise, that just started a couple of weeks ago. I just assumed that it was the half shaft (CV joint). If anyone figures out what it actually is let us all know.

I had the grinding noise at first, I took everything appart and that noise went away. My calipers have about half the mileage of the car. About 150000km. they're still very good and the sliders work very very well. I hear a Knocking sound... It seems to knock on every turn of the wheel. I will have to change discs and pads before the end of this summer and I hope it will help. I just changed my cv boot and inspected the cv joint and everything was really nice in there... I will be putting powerslots and Hawk brake pads and will see if that helps. (crossing fingers)
