Aftermarket muffler..
i've done searches and read pleanty of post but im still unsure on a few things. i know this subject has been tackled many times but please bare with me. i want to put an aftermarket muffler on my car and im thinking about and cheap universal one. as long as its straight through, there really cant be any differences in sound right? and if i do put on only an aftermarket muffler, will it be noticably louder, comparable to BrianV's intake mod?
Well, technically...any differences in the shape of the can and the packing material and all that would make a difference in tone. But in the real world, they all sound pretty much the same.
I'm getting set up to put a muffler from a 94 300ZX Turbo on my car. It may not add power , but the twin tips will look cool. Plus my OEM muffler is rustin out. The piece was free and installation will only be about $40, so I think its worth it.

You should look at the Stillen muffler. Not only does it look better than any other, (in my opinion) but it's a REAL high quality piece. It is Stainless Steel, and fits the cutout in the bumper perfectly. When you shine it up it looks sooo tight. It makes the car sound really good, and it isn't obtrusive at all. It's expensive but worth it.
i cant spend too much now, so im gonna go with a cheaper aftermarket muffler. i have prom coming up soon and i cant wait til after to get an exhaust..to far away. thats one thing i hate about myslef, i dont have patients..

Dual Tip Muffler Problem~
I'm looking to get Arospeed universal ss muffler w/ Dual AMG 3.5" tip (2.5" inlet size). Would it look/fit since there's already a cutout on stock bumper?? Would the muffler fit beneath the bumper or do I have to 'modify' the bumper cutout in order for the dual tip to look right?

It won't fit in the stock cutout for sure. It could go under the cutout, but that would look funny due to the squared-off tips and the round cutout. If the price is right, having the cutout modified to fit the tips would look really good, and I guarantee you won't see another Max like that around.

Im telling you the Stillen muffler fits it perfectly, and it looks the best. It's expensive, but it's worth it!!!!!

These are Mille Miglia Spyder's...
I have had them for about a year now, and been loving them... These are actually not expensive at all. Check out Tirerack.com, and you should be able to get a nice set of wheel and tires (if you like the RE730's like I do) for well under 1300 bucks...
Don't put on a hasty and bad muffler choice just because of your prom date --
The Stillen 4+ inch chrome tip directly downstream of the 2" muffler outlet may look O.K. too some people but it isn't useful and when its all shiny attracts the police --- I used to have one and the nice police officer who pulled me over once suggested the same --
The Stillen will boom with low frequencies at normal cruising RPMs -- like a 200 watt subwoofer right on your ears --
I went the same route as you are considering -- I had a local exhaust shop fabricate a 2.5" muffler section -- it has a 2.5" inlet pipe into the sound chamber -- The sound chamber is longer than the Stillen unit I used to have -- the bigger size tends to reduce the boominess in sound -- The outlet pipe has a 2.0" thin chrome tip -- nice but not standing out of the ordinary -- looks like stock, sounds more like stock, way better flow, horsepower than stock, and doesn't attract cops -- and a good shop will do it for less money than a typical aftermarket muffler will cost --
But no muffler section will really work better unless you upgrade the whole pipe behind the catalytic converter --
Have fun --
