engine runs too cold

reading another thread reminded me of what happens if my car sits for 5 hours. the temperature gauge needle is at C for cold, and my engine revs at about 1500rpms. when i drive it, it warms up and the rpms at idle drop down. is this also the tps or what?

edit: this started happening after i let that one mechanic change my rear valve spring gasket, that took a week. stupid expensive moron.

Its supposed to drop down. It idles high when its cold to warm itself up. Once it warms up past the C line, the idle drops down to normal. Or if its cold it'll go up to 1500 and when you put it in drive it'll go down to about 1000 until it warms up completey and it goes down to about 700 or so. Your perfectly normal. Dont let anyone fool you and take your money.

the car is supposed to fast idle at ~1500RPM when on "C", as the needle progesses to center, the idle speed decreases to ~600-800RPM

are you serious, it does warm up MUCH faster in the summer, the behavior is normal, its not goign to be instanteneously hot, the radiator is disipating the heat pretty quickly, even when your engine is off, the fan will kick on if the reading is too high

When the winter hits, you will see a much longer timeframe for when your car will warm up. In the winter it takes my car around 3 to 4 city blocks of driving to reach the middle of temp gauge. In the summer, by the end of the first block, the needle is in the middle. Think of it, it makes perfect sense.
