Manual Tranny Issues '96 SE
My Max started making some screeching metal-on-metal scraping/grinding sound the other day shifting through all the gears. I took it to the dealership the other day, had them take the tranny apart and they found that the input shaft bearing was actually broken! I initially thought it was the throw-out bearing that needed to set in (the sound started after I had the clutch replaced).
Has this ever happened to anyone or should I take it to another dealership for a second opinion?

Spoke to the dealership again, and yeah they showed me the remains of my input shaft bearing. The rest of the bearing was floating around in the tranny making "spoon-in-a-blender" sounds and also caused a couple of seals to tear in the tranny, soaking my new clutch. They inspected all the gears for any damage and said everything else looked good.
So, another new clutch, a new input-shaft bearing, a couple of new seals, and about 13 hours of labor (most of it was dismantling and inspecting the tranny parts), will end up costing about $1500.
