so did you end up going with the 14829? if so, how does it sound? do you have any other exhaust mods? also, how much for the install? the guy at Merlin's Exhaust and Brakes said it'd be $250 installed. He showed me the msrp for the muffler alone and i think it was over $300, so $250 installed doesnt sound too bad.

i decided not to go with magnaflow and go with greddy SP instead, partly because of the better gains and all my rusted piping under the body. so i am going with a full catback then getting cattman headers.

Magnaflows sound good at part throttle. It sounds like a freakin' Boxer engine with exhaust done. Then you jam the gas pedal and the raspy hell sound comes out.

I don't have a Magnaflow exhaust, but I do have their resonator. It looks like it developed cracks after a few months! I don't know if this is an isolated case, but it could say something about their quality.

Since this is an exhaust thread, and before I start a new thread on the subject, does anyone have any good sound clips of JUST a muffler installed on a Maxima? I want a nice deep sound from my car, but something that doesn’t drone at higher rpms.

Any sound clip will be greatly appreciated as long as there are no other exhaust mods (y-pipe, cat-back, etc…).

I got a 3 inch exhaust system. Magnaflow exhaust pan. Sounds very similar like a Greddy SP. Sounds good to me.

would it be wise to replace the full exhaust all at once? I was told last year that my car would need full exhaust within a year or two (rust). I was kinda wondering if i could just start piecing the exhaust together starting with the muffler and working my way up to the front. I wouldnt want to end up with a muffler that didnt sound good after i had replaced everything else though. Or, should i just forget the muffler for now and get a y pipe? I just dont have enough money to pay for a full exhaust right now because i'm starting college in the fall.

Since yours is rusting most likely start with the catback first, muffler or bpipe(which ever has the most rust) then work your way to the ypipe since ypipes dont rust out as easy if they ever do. Usually its the ypipe that everyone does first but since your rusting, gotta take care of that

97maxSE - you just want looks? There arent a lot....but you can get a muffler like mine....KEEP your stock resonator and add another one and it should be pretty quiet

Does anyone have any sound clips of the 14827 or 14829 with an aftermarket y pipe and aftermarket resonanted b pipe? I love the way those 2 look, but I wanna hear them first.

The WS is exactly like the stock set-up except the deep, subtle burble. This of course for a non y-pipe car.

KingRukus -- do you have stock exhaust right now?

My setup is stock - JUST the magnaflow muffler. WITH the resonator.....at lower RPMs (below 3500) you can tell it's there. It does NOT annoy you or it does not buzz or sound ricey.

At higher RPMs.....you can barely tell it's there. My intake is so loud...it's all you hear. I'll TRY to get a clip this weekend.

97MaxSE - if all you want is a SS muffler due to rust, I dunno what to say. I know CT may have salt and stuff...but like I said, go w/ Magnaflow and keep your resonator. You WONT be dissatisfied!

Bijan - my exhaust is fully stock...I will be upgrading to y/b pipe within a month, so that is why I need to hear how it sounds like with that. A Y pipe will totally throw the sound off from a stock one, and so that is why I really wanna hear it with a y pipe.

i currently have a budget y-pipe, big resonator on my b-pipe, and a muffler (forget which kind since i bought it over 2 years ago. anyways, it's too loud for me!!! i'm sick of any and all droning noise so i'm looking to get a 2.5" catback with another resonator on and not sure which muffler to use. i really want silence which i know will be hard to achieve with a aftermarket y pipe and catback.

am i only left with a stock muffler as an option or does anyone know of a fairly cheap to moderately priced aftermarket muffler that will be nice and quiet, and not look ricey or too dinky? any help is greatly appreciated. thanks
