we lined up at the light, I punched first he was unaware, next light we both lined up again, now we both hit it and I think he actually hesitated for a second
(it must be that drive by wire thing) up to 50mph he is half-car ahead, up to 70 he put 4 cars on me, and he gets on the ramp to the highway. He was on left and he had enough speed to cut infront of me and get on the ramp less than 1/4 mile ahead. I wish i had a 50-shot kit. His exhaust sounded like farting, but it was stock. I had y/b/mid pipes & auto.

yeah, I raced to see if the price differential justified by the speed...I bet S/C manual MAX would be a good match. I have to say his car looked so good.
So far I lost 3 on a row this year, Transam-ws6, boxster, benzito. time to find some accords.

my father bought a S500 it was a 95,Chrome mercedes rims, smoked metalic grey with bullet proof features super black tints. It wasnt a fast car but was only for looks, It was given to me for about 2 month intill my brother gave me his maxima. which I sorta have it but we need to do the insurance papers then its 100% mine. Cant wait to post pics of it. But yea now the benz is going to greece because my parents need a car for greece. They have a NEW patherfinder 03 LE. I love that SUV!! If it was S600 AMG.... forget about it. lol
I'm pretty sure the SL65 AMG is faster than the 55. Not sure if it's out yet but it's number dwarf the sl55. Is the sl55 the fastest car in the world or the fastest AUTO in the world? The thing weighs 4500lbs so it can't be that fast.
sl65????? is it the same body style as sl 55 just with a twin turbo v12. n e pics, that thing needs to come with a roll cage cause i bet it is crazy fast lol. id like to get behind one of those and floor it till top speed.
on a side note, i had some fun taking down a benz c240 (i think it was that) last night. He had a nice launch, but i had him at 30 mph untill i was done having fun. i took him 2 times. not really a mind blowing race but a lil somethin to even out the loss to the SL lol

but really, if you're gonna race a BMW or even a Benz, you better have some serious mods ... one time I drove my sis's 330Ci convertible, man that 3L I-6 can not only haul a$$ but can kick a$$ too

when will nissan come out with something like the mercedes SL series. infiniti needs a line up of roadsters one similar in class to the slk and bwm z4, then a flagship roadster on par with the mercedes sl, and that other bmw roadster.
It doesnt help that its a Chrysler.. not even Mercedes owning them can save their crappy workmanship. The US Government should've let Chrylser die in the early 80's and never took them out of debt, they would've been doing us a favor.

OK:
The SL 55 AMG was the fastest auto car in the world with V8 supercharged engine delivering 476.1 bhp to be exact. The SL 65 AMG, which just came out now in 2004 is one that you can't buy in the US. If you go to the BENZ's website, it's not even listed there. It's not a concept, but I know it's extremely limited and chances are you won't get one even if you have the cash - simply put, it's not a "regular" production vehicle. Anyway, it's a V12 twin turbo with 612 bhp, making it the fastest auto car in the world, which does 0-60 in 4.1 seconds, achieving roughly the same exact stats as a Porsche 911 Turbo or GT2. Kind of amazing what a BENZ, "designed for luxury and looks" can do huh?
P.S. Not too surprised that the fastest stock 4-door sedan in the world was and still is (until the 2005 V10 BMW M5 and RS6 come out) the BENZ E55 AMG with a supercharged V8 that outputs 476 bhp. Comon guys, I'm amazed - we gotta give Mercedes credit here
I mean here we have an A U T O grocery-getter sedan (let me emphasize SEDAN!) with an MSRP of $79k that can, roughly speaking, hang or perhaps even ***** a Z06 (MSRP $56k) if launched properly - AMAZING!

Mercedes is going down the drain ever since they made the deal with chrysler. The quality of the interiaor has taken such a dump it's not funny. While Chrysler is getting Benz engines, Benz is getting everything else from Chrysler. Pathetic.
My bad, it's a CL65 AMG, not SL65 even though there is one on the way. It's 612hp\737TQ and only $135k. 0-60=4.4s. On sale now. The SL55AMG is a 5.5L SC engine making 493 at the crank.

To my surprise, they simply couldn't believe the amount of shaking and rattling caused by the unstable and cheap plastic used in the dash for example. It performed well and they acknowledged the fact that it was a performance oriented vehicle, but even then its faulty interior was simply unacceptable. I don't know about the rest of you, but I wouldn't want the interior dash of a car I shell out $100k+ on to resemble, look-wise, quality-wise, or noise-wise that of an SE Maxima.
BigD: you were referring to the CL 65 AMG this whole time. I though you were talking about the SL 65 AMG, which performs better and looks best IMO.
not all benzes and bmw's are limited at 155. it depends on the prodution numbers or each car they make.not all come limited but most of them do, especially the mass produced ones.
ohh and i saw a video of a s65 amg run around low 12's or high 11's in a 1/4 mile.

I'm thinking that per Mercedes' numbers the SL55 is their fastest "attainable" automatic (lets just leave the 65's out of this for now).. But if I'm not mistaken, the E55 actually weights less (I dont feel like looking up the numbers right now, but I've read this somewhere), and I'm sure if you put both on a dyno, the difference would be about the same as the 245hp altima, and the 255hp maxima. ie. none. I think they just don't want their 4door outperforming their sport coupe on paper.

cool thread lots of cool new info on benz. but back to the original topic.....
They only reason you lost to the sl500 is cause you're auto. I've raced one from a light both of us launching and by the top of 3rd(95ish mph) I had 1/2 car on him. Pretty close race.
Oh yea, I'm 96 5speed with only intake/ypipe. and a nasty driver.
