Knock Sensor Code Again

My car was feeling a little slower than usual and it pulled the knock sensor code. I recently replaced it at 79,000 miles and am currently at 83,000. This seems a little too soon. I am not that mechanically inclined nor do I have any equipment to test electrical current. Can anyone offer advice as to what I can do about it?

Could it be at all related to my Injen CAI that I put in at 77,000, as the old one went bad not too long after?

Thanks for your help.

I doubt very seriously its related. To answer your other question, it could 3 of these things. One, its torqued too tight. Two, torqued too loose. Three, sensor/harness is bad. I guess thats 4 huh. Who put it in and is it a new sensor? Who ever put it in should have a way to test the sensor and or torque to spec if it wasnt done the first time.

I put it in myself and I admit, did not torque it to spec, because I don't know how (I don't have a torque wrench, probably not the smartest idea). I understand that if it is too tight, it is likely to be too sensitive, but why would this happen if it was too loose?

Also, this happened a year after installing the old one, seems like if it wasn't close to the proper spec, then it woulda gone out sooner. But thanks for the help.

Dude! You shouldn't even be touching anything on your engine without a TQ wrench. Don't mean to sound like I'm flaming but you should go get tomorrow and use it in EVERY application you become involved in.

Looks like some digging will need to be done. I'll keep looking.

In the meantime, you can download the Field Service Manual for Maxima's years 94 to .. 03 I think from here http://www.benddatacenter.com/nfsm.zip

It's 600MB but well worth it. Enjoy

Given its location, how could you use a torque wrench on the knock sensor?
