Yellowish headlights after polishing them up.

I polished my headlights removed all the road grime and most of the little dings, I looks really clear when you look at them, once I turn the lights on they look yellowish. I'm thinking the bulb itself is causing this. What bulbs will give me that pure white look. I recently purchased phillips standard h3 for my fogs and they look pure white no tint to them what so ever. Should I go with a standard phillips headlight bulb or does anyone have a better suggestion.

At Auto-Zone they have other choices. I remember seeing some called "Cool Blue", but the ones I bought were even brighter white. Can't remember the brand name, but just ask at the counter. I think I paid $40 for the two front headlights.

Either stick with the stock bulbs or get HID's if you want them white. Anything else is low quality and worse visibility in and out of rain. (my own personal experience)

I still have the original bulbs on the car it's a 98. Does the bulb itself start to discolor with age.

not sure, but, as hacim stated: ive been thru: silverstars, Naxos, APC Hyper Whites and just ended up back at OEM replacements..now im kicking myslef in the A$$ for not spending that what? 40+50+50+20= 160$ and additional liek 40 bucks and getting some HID's off of ebay instead of spending money time and time again on HID look alikes. And, if they werent yellowish before, what would make you think it could all the sudden be the bulbs, especially if u didnt even touch them?

I have Sylvannia Xtravissions and they were the whitest I found without going to silverstars and loosing the ability to see while driving in the rain.

I used fine cut rubbing compound with an orbital polisher. Took about 30 mins per light to do. They look really clear now and there isn't even a hint of yellow on the lense. I just replaced my corners with clear corners and I noticed when I swapped the bulbs to the orange ones that the original bulbs looked dirty, they had a blackish color to them. That's why I thought maybe the headlight bulb itself deteriorates with time.

first, i hope you upgraded your harnesses otherwise wait a few weeks/months til your stock ones melt and your lights go out. those bulbs suck! i had them and regret ever looking at them and buying them. the visibility in the rain is awful and they attracted too many cops.

It depends on the wattage of the bulbs, some of the fake hid bulbs are rated the same as the stock ones so it wont melt. Some that are higher than 65/45w will melt the harnesses.

well, i dont think they suck, the visibility is much better than stock, and i will be upgrading the harness next week, so i wont have to worry about tehm melting. i dont see how they can attract cops when they are 100% legal, you just cant have blue front facing bulbs...at least around me.

Ok, to you people suggesting HIDs: You CANNOT buy a 9004 hid kit off of ebay and expect to be all good. That type of bulb in your stock reflector housing will cause IMMENSE amounts of glare to oncoming traffic; which in turn ruins their vision and is EXTREMELY dangerous. It is also VERY illegal. The ONLY way to put hids in a car that has reflector style headlights (every max prior to 2004) you HAVE to retrofit projectors in.
