okay so i finally decided to work on my 97-99 front-end convertion. anyway i heard that the 97+ front bumper will show a part of the reinforcement bar, so do i need to paint that? thx.

What is involved in a 97 front end conversion? (what exact parts need to be replaced?)

 

Grill and Bumper cover, thats all.
A true conversion would need the 97-99 headlights as well but the 95-96 lights will fit fine.

 

You don't absolutely need a new grill but there will be a 1" gap below each leg if you don't. You would need new foglights too, if you so desired.

 

can u post a pic of that gap? i was thinking of getting a 97 front bumper but keeping the 95-96 grill

 

I actually have a pretty good close-up picture from when I test-fitted my '97 bumper cover and left my '96 grill on with me holding a ruler up to the gap. But I don't have it here at work - I know that does you no good, sorry. But I can say it is exactly an inch. Look at your car. You'll note that on your '95/'96 bumper cover, just below the outer grill legs, it comes up to meet the bottom of the grill legs. Well, the '97-'99 cover does not come up as far to meet the grill legs (in fact, ~1" less). The '97 grill legs are ~1" longer. If I log on to the internet at home (rarely do) any time soon, I'll post the pic here.

 

It looks like crap, trust me. I had to drive around with the 96 grill with the gap untill I got my 97 in.
If anything, go with no grill and just use a mesh grill instead of having the gap.

i just e-mailed matt and we're doing 97+ front bumper primered w/o fog light + chrome grill for $90, but shipping is like another $100 to CA. so i'm it's under $200 shipped for bumper + chrome grill.

i'm not planning to upgrade 97+ headlight.

i've been getting quotes for $400 painted and installed around my area. u mite have to ask around
