Need some accident help and clarifications.
I've already found 2 with very low miles but the problem is they are private sellers, not a dealer. There is no way I can have $20k in a week. What if I were to get a loan from a bank? Do I get the cash as soon as I'm approved and then start paying it off? I'm pretty sure that when someone buys a new car or house, the bank forks the money over up front and then you pay it off monthly. Would it be the same for a private seller?
Like I said before, the estimate is thursday at 2:30pm. If they decide the car is a goner I will try to get some people to buy them + replace them with their stock parts. I have a buyer for the Ypipe and the ne O2 sensors. Probably a buyer for the shocks and springs. All I have left is the WS. Currently I'm considering not buying it back at all.

From my own experience one of my cars was estimated a total lost. I was able to buy the car back from the insurance for $200.... a guy earlier said 20% of the value? i think that's way too high... i think they will let you keep the car for no more then $500 to $800. They will call you and ask you what you want to do so dont worry about them selling your car to anyone. and i can't see the pics n the link...
anyways good luck with everything...P.
hey big d i'm pretty sure you will be able to make money if you do buy it back, but if you do not decide to buy it back can you try and grab me the hood struts and trunk carpeting and other stock stuff from the trunk i.e. stock jack and tools. also if possible the rear armrest. like i said earlier don't let the insurance give you a hard time, and charge you a lot, you are the customer and you deserve to be treated fairly!

1. Go to bank and apply for loan, lets say 15,000
2. Bank processes loan, approves it.
3. You find car being sold by private party named Joe Schmo
4. You have bank issue loan check for 15k to Joe Schmo AND Big D
Now two possibilities:
1. You like the car, agree on the price, and choose to buy it:
a. You go see car, agree on price, hand over check to Joe Schmo + extra money to cover difference between agreed price and loan check amount
b. When Joe Schmo cashes/deposits check, your loan starts and you start making the payments
2. You don't like the car and choose not to buy
a. You go back to bank, hand them back the check made out to yourself and Joe Schmo, they rip it up and cut you a new check when you are ready to make an offer to the next seller.
The reason you put your name and the sellers name on the check, is in case you don't buy the car, what you are essentially doing is paying off the loan with the same check issued...
I believe the loan approval is only valid for 30 days - so you have to "start" the loan by then...
Hope that helps.

Well, here's an update. My car is worth $6,700, damage assesed so far is $4,600. That's what the insurance adjustor guy told me. Here's more news, they sent me to a body shop to get the trunk pulled apart to look for more damage. The shop told me the estimate is worthless and he needs to make one himself. Here's the bad news, I can't buy the car back. In illinois there is a law that if a car is 8yrs old or more you can't buy it back as a salvage. A car is also not considered SALVAGED if the damages aren't 100% of what the car is worth. In the end I'm getting $6k eitherway.
Think I'm gonna look for a 5spd 4th gen instead. Worst thing is that it's much easier to find a damn 6spd than a 5spd. I'm going to end up with the car in the end anyway. I'll have a parts car. I'll keep the motor and sell everything else.
Well, the car is worth $6,700. The danages according to the shop ALL-STATE recommended and told me to take the car to so they can find more damage said the damages are around $6,500. With that said, I'll hopefully have $6,500 and the car. If not I'll have $6,700 and will beg to get my stuff out. Huligan the WS will need modification to fit your car but if you still want it and they give it to me I'll let you have it. Don't remember what I wanted, it's in one of the other threads. I believe it was $250, steal. I wanted to keep it, at least the b-pipe but I'm not sure yet. I know I'll have a 4.5gen so keeping it is an option.

those pics look really similar to my accident last year...i though for sure my car was a gonner estimated damage was close to 7k but they actually reapaired it.
i had frame damage in the rear but they sawed my car in half and welded another back end on to it. they did a really good job you cannot even tell my car was in an accident. but my car is an 98 and at that time it was only 5 years old so i guess it still have a lot of value to it to repair. hopefully u still get to keep your maxima. sorry bout the accident it really sux

when i had my accident i spun out and rapped my rear around a tree thought it was going to get totaled as well but they fixed it if there is no frame damage expect your car back in 2 months took it to a body shop they told me 14k to fix but that was 2002 and i have a 99 so the car was still worth 14 to 16k then the insurence got it and they fixed it for half that and you would never know the car was wrecked
