Need some accident help and clarifications.

I got into one yesterday and it honestly looks like the car will be totaled. The entire rear is gone, absolutely no frame damege however, and the driver's side rear quarter is messed up. With the car being valued no more than $6k I believe it's a goner. Now to the questions. Will I be able to take anything off the car? Do I need receipts for those items or no? I just want my headunit, my suspension, and my exhaust. I don't have receipts nor the stock parts, rusted out or sold. Any help would be appreciated.
Also looks like many of you will get your wish and I won't be around anymore. Although another max is probably on it's way to my garage, I'm not sure if I'll want to mod it if I can't take parts off the damaged vehicle. Either way, I had a great time meeting some of you at meets and arguing with some of the cry babies. Good times. Thanks in advance.

Damn

What exactly happened? was it with another car or was it a solo accident?

Just let insurance deal with it, you could technically spend the time putting stock suspension back on and sell the aftermarket. Insurance might give you less if you take off the suspension and not put stock back on. Same goes with the headunit and exhaust. Good luck! Hopefully you get another max.

as far as my experiences you should be able to take things off the car after all it is still your car. if you want you should be able to buy back the whole car for a fraction of the price, for example, when i crashed my se-r the insurance claimed it was a total loss, and i got to buy the car back for $250 dollars w/ all the parts on it, which was worth more then $250. i then got a spare sentra from a friend for free(parts car) replaced everything i needed to and drove the car again, which btw was good as new) and pocketed the money! if you buy the car and cant repair it back to running condition, you can still make extra money by parting out and you should be able to have whats left be picked up and towed by the state for free, well i know you can in hawaii. or just use the money from selling parts to get it towed later. if they give you a hard time(insurance) GIVE THEM A HARD TIME! why should they push you around? you are the customer and you pay for their services, they always back down to me if i am constantly on their ***, or they will take advantage of you, never except ''no' as an answer! hope this helps. btw if you do part im real in need of the stock trunk carpeting and other stock parts .......

Some old fart on a bike locks ups his wheels and brakes at a train crossing for no reason. Well I believe the reason was he thought he had to stop cause the school bus stopped(they have to stop at train crossings). This guy slams his brakes, I slam on mine, hit his rear(only has a broken tail light), van behind me slams into me and destroys the rear. My car is the only one with big damage. The guy behind me and I got tickets and the guy on the bike went to the hospital, shoulder pain. Only reason there is no frame damage is cause the guy in the van tried to swerve out of the way and got on the curb so his bumber went over the frame and the bumper beam. I'll take some pics for you guys in a few minutes.

Damn, dude, that sucks. You likely have a total there, because unlike the fenders, there isn't an easy way to replace the rear QPs. I had a crunch on one of my QPs from a spin out and the body and paint labor were insane.

As for the parts, you're going to have to talk to your insurance company. They'll pay you out based on the value of what they're buying, and you'll most likely be better off taking the stuff off. Since so much of the car is in good shape, you should really consider buying it back to part out if they'll sell it to you for a couple grand. There's lots of good parts there and you could use the money for another Max.

Sorry about your luck, and remember that as much as it sucks, it's just a car. It's replaceable, you're not.

You're bringing back memories...I got rearended by an airheaded cell-phone yakkin' woman in a Volvo a couple of years ago and the damage was similar but not quite as bad. I went to one of the if not the best bodyshop here and it ended up being just under $12K not including the rental car. So yeah, it's totalled. Also, you've got to get another Max and stick around here. It's always entertaining reading your posts. Heck, you even called me a smartass one time...good luck with everything.

I just had the other side QP fixed a few months ago. It was more damaged than this one and they just banged it out to shape. I thought that maybe cause it's only body damage it wouldn't be much. I could buy some body panels for it and make it work. Oh well.

Yup totalled. Get as much as you can out of the insurance, buy it back for as cheap as possible. Buy another max, transfer mods and part out old car.

Wait, hold on. Can they give me the money, AND then I can buy the car back for less or is it one or the other?

The buyback is usually a % of the reimursement amount. ie.. let's say they give you $7,000 for your car. To buy the car back, you give them about 20% of that. So you would get $5,600 + your car back. But make sure you tell the insurance company so they don't give it to a wrecker. Wreckers will submit bids to the insurance company to buy it. It's usually a really low amount but they work fast.

Wow, that sux. Atleast you're okay. Like they said, get the insurance money and buy the car back. If not, then tell them to let you take some stuff out. Where's the car at right now?

It's in the garage. My pops drove it home 10+miles after the crash. Like I said, cause the guy behind us swerved onto the median there is only body damage. All the rear lights are broken but the bulbs still work. I want to buy the car back but I'm not sure if the $$$ I'll make from selling the parts will be equal to the total my insurance would give me for the whole thing.

From the damage it looks like it was a hard hit. The thing is I was too busy looking at the guy on the bike flying to the side to even notice. Scary thing is that all that damage was caused by a car going 15-20mph ONLY.

Big D - keep your head up !!! we all have been there - the key is to leave the past and move on,
now - take your time and negatiate good deal with insurance company - do some research first on how to talk to them and you'll be back on your feet in no time !!!

good thing you are ok and nobody got hurt.

what insurance company are you with?
now time is on your side , but don't agree to their first offer which most likely will be low ball.

Nick.

Big D, glad you are not hurt.

Tell you the truth, that can be fixed. When my sis's Mazda 6 got in a wreck(was not that bad), I was watching him choose the parts off the computer and they sell the pieces to replace the rear quarter. They sell it section by section.

I have all state. I have friend who's guy works at State farm and he's gonna tell me what my car is worth according to their system. All state is around the same price range. I'll check the blue book and all that stuff too. I'm only worried that I might have to settle for a gold colored max if it's a manual.

Kevlo, you have to also take into consideration that the entire trunk along with the floor is pushed in about a foot.

Well, it looks like another 4th gen is a no go. This poor ol' college student needs to get himself a new job cause a 6spd ain't cheap. I'll have a pretty good downpayment but for someone with no credit the interest will bite me in the ***. I'll be turning 20 next month and what a great present it is not to have a car, probably no job, and living in a huge city like Chicago. Only thing I can promise is that I'm not feeling all that happy so my posts might reflect that, more than ever.

I talked to them already. It was only about the accident though. The damage estimate is this thursday. I'm not expecting anything over $5k to be honest.

I think it either will work or it won't. The guy that hit me in the rear, his insurance company is responsible for my damages. Meaning that my insurance will either pay me a lot since they'll get the money back or they'll give me a low offer fearing the other company won't pay up.

Kev, I stayed up til 4am this morning reading the first 25 pages of the 5th gen forums. I don't find it as helpfull as the 4th gen forum but maybe that's cause many of the cars there are still covered under warranty. The headkight theft isn't much of an issue around here.

Yikes, 25 PGS

Ya, I also read the 5th time to time and their threads aren't not like ours but there are plenty of smart people in the 5th gen forums that can answer your Q's.
