45xxx miles. What should i get done?
Recently i hit around 45,000 miles in my 99 se-limited. Is there anything that i should replace? I havent done anything major since i bought the car, except oil changes, obviously. What should i do and how do i do it?
might be a good idea to do the following
- BG Fuel Induction service (costly but well worth it)
- BG Engine Flush (also costly but worth it)
- Cooling System Flush (as rmurdoch mentioned)
- Tranny Flush (depending on what tranny you have, auto or manual)
- Tire Rotation/Balance (has this been done before?)
- Brake Inspection (sometimes included in tire rotations)
Based on your mileage, looks like you have another 15K to go before doing a tune-up at 60K
Only other advice I can give you since your max is a '99 is to watch out for the ignition coils, that is a common problem on '99s
? - are you the original owner of your Max or did you buy it used?

The difficulty I am having with this thread is "After almost 1,000 posts, why is this thread even being initiated"? I am relatively new to the Board, am not mechanically inclined, but I can reason and absorb information and go from there.
there is a 60K service that the dealer recommends that bundles most of those services, + tune up, oil change and an inspection, kinda costly, but some of the stuff you can do yourself which could save you quite a bit of $$, depending on your mechanical skills, but its up to you
Take the car to a radiator shop and get them to check the pH of the radiator coolant. They do this with a strip of paper. Before I got my Maxima I never paid any attention to flushing rads, and consequently have had to replace a few. It is sound preventative maintenance to flush the rad and replace the antifreeze. It pays dividends down the road. The antifreeze breaks down after 2 years or so.
Also, I take it your car is stock. I replaced my air filter twice by 44,000 miles as it was filthy. The manual recommends replacing it every 30,000 miles, but I doubt anybody waits that long, except maybe you. If you have never replaced yours, your gas mileage will have reflected that. If you are not into getting a CAI or Popcharger and plan on keeping your car for awhile, you should seriously consider getting a K&N panel air filter. You will notice an improvement in performance and fuel economy as it breathes better than OEM and lasts forever, with periodic cleaning and maintenance you can do yourself.
