is this information correct? (knock sensor)
is this information correct? (knock sensor)
someone on ebay got me confused, i thought when a knock is dead no check "engine light" but u have to scan it to get the code 0304
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting
this guy says the "check engine" must be on
this rings the bell, when i got check engine on my car, i went to scan it, i got the 0304 code (with some other code) then after 1-2 weeks( can't remember for sure) the light turned off by itself
does anybody have an explanation for this?
thanks

the Knock Sensor code is a "ghost" code, meaning that it wont trip the CEL/SES light unless something else, like an O2 sensor goes bad, giving you 2 or as many codes that tripped the SES light. That way when the SES light is on and you pull the codes from Autozone or whereever else and they tell you the Knock Sensor code came up as well as whatever else triggered the SES light, 99.9% of the time the item that triggered the SES light itself will be fixed, eliminating the infamous 0304 Knock Sensor code.

u mean in my case the knock sensor is bad?
looks like your max is a '95 and w/ the mileage you listed in a previous post, sounds like you're due for a new one
BUT .. before you change your KS, do you feel a small to noticeable loss of power while accelerating in the low to midrange rpms?

i scanned it before and got the code 0304, does that mean definitly bad knock sensor? or is it affected by other things like o2 sensor etc for the 0304 code to be triggered too?
i know it's a common problem. i am concerned too, because i already bought the knock sensor, but not installed yet, i don't want my purchase to be a waste of money that's all
thanks

i have another question though. My knock sensor is placed on the timing chain cover not below the intake manifold
does that make a difference?
besides my engine makes the rattling sound (cam shaft tensioners problem), when it's placed on the timing cover, wouldn't that affect it's operation? because it's job to sense knocking, and the engine rattles from that location
isn't it better for it to be placed away from that location? away like on the cylinder block and below the intake manifold?
thank again
