I got a stock 96 max se 5spd its riding on 17's with z-rated potenzas.....i was going down an interstate and wanted to see if it really would hit 140...well i got to 140 and it was churning a little less than 6000rpms....i let off as soon as it hit 140 because i didnt know if the check engine light would come on if it was exceeded...but i know it felt and looked like(by the rpm gauge) that i could have gone faster....is this possible?....oh yeh i had the AC on too and the road sloped down a very little amount.....yes i am also aware that it is very stupid and dangerous to go that fast....but i had to see.

140

I might have gone 140...and if I did, the car was well under 6000 rpms and smooth. Stock everything. Still scary, and I don't plan to do it [again].

Whihc model do u you have? If you dont have the C&C package then your limited. If you have GLE or SE or GXE w/ C&C then you can go as fast as your able to. Cant forget being drag limited as well. Sx7R (Thomas) hit 151mph in his 99 GXE 5 speed but he is also on the bottle. He has a video clip of it too. The autos can go up to about 137 or so before it read lines. 5 speeds can go 140mph or so and thats it.

At 140 my max has plenty rpms left.If you look at a mag review of max you will see 4th gear take it too 131,5th gear will go way past 140 ,probably around 160 ,if you had the power and stability to get you there.

A stock 95SE 5spd Maxima was tested by MT and did 142MPH.
Redline in 5th gear is at 157mph.
As for the original ??,has anyone gone over 140mph,Hell yeah! I got my modded 95 max 150+mph.
I have not tried in my SC 5spd I30 yet, but I have gotten up to 130 in 4th gear in 35mph zones{last night actualy},some jerk was tail gating me so I just let it rip, BTW I never saw him again muhahah.

the drag coef. isnt really a problem - our drag coe is the same as an e36 3 series including the m3 ( 92 - 99 ... m3's were made from 95-99 in 94 there was a 328 M tech this car is really rare... ) and those cars have been known to hit 160.

it takes alot of road to get the max up to 130, id imagine that it would take more road to get to 140+ in a auto maxima.....

I've hit well in excess of 140 (according to my speedo) with no mods at all. I was i South Dakota on I 90 headed West towards the Corn Palace (sad name, huh?) 130 comes fast and after that the car trickles up. I was in a 99 5 speed SE-L.

If you think that's fast...I went 178 on my 1991 Ninja ZX11 with mods. Now THAT's fast! But it's scarey when it rains...

for the record, that was off the bottle. you never want to spray when you're going that fast - it's really hard on the drive train and engine.

I never took my car up to 140mph. The fastest I went was 125mph. Anyway, our car speedometer only goes up to 140mph. So, without any device helping you, how would you know if you're going 150 mph., for example?

I'm surprised that he went up to 140mph. with the a/c on. When I was going 125mph. with the a/c on, I noticed that the a/c power went down, it wasn't as cool anymore. It was more like I had the fan on, but no a/c. Furthermore, doesn't having the a/c on hurt your acceleration?

i think your a/c compressor stops when you are at WOT - only the fan is on.

I had my new y-pipe on the car for a couple weeks when I had an opportunity to open it up a little for the first time since the installation. I was cruising along at 70 mph on a deserted stretch of interstate when, on the spur of the moment, I decided to go for a quick blip up to 100 mph. The car shot up to 100 mph so fast, I decided to keep it at WOT a bit longer. My car *lunged* from 100 mph all the way to 140-mph so quickly I had to gasp. At that point, I had a long, sweeping curve and an acute attack of major paranoia to contend with, so I coasted back down to 70 mph. The car had more to give, I'm sure, as I have exceeded 140 mph on other occasions. If I'd had more straight road, I would have found out where the car topped out. Maybe next time... Tennessee Salt Flats, where are you? :-)

I've hit what I would guess to be 142. That's just with trying to match up the spacing after the needle passed up the 140 mark. The car is surprisingly stable and there is this weird calm that comes about. Probably because you are just floating on a pillow of air. A peable could cause the car to flip I need new tires so I haven't done this in a while...scared of a blow out.

178!!!!!! ON A BIKE.....all I can say is INSANE!!!!!! 178 would be scary as hell in a car, I couldn't even imagine that on a bike, I get scared at 100mph on a bike.

BTW, I've hit 142 in my max...I don't know if it could have gone faster, ran out room between cars.

I thought the auto could hit 143? I have done 125 in my Max, but my softer suspension doesn't make my feel good going faster than that. I drove an S class for 2 years for my job and I would do 180 in one if it could. That car is planted to the Earth.

Yeah...b/c that will help you a great deal when you crash doing 140 and your limbs get torn apart. At least you won't have brain damage.

In my stock '95 SE I went up to 135mph before I chickened out (not too many long straight roads in my neck of the woods). She took it beautifully. The engine purred instead of whined. If I had a FSTB and RSTB with Z rated tires, I would've taken the curves and tried for speedometer pegging.

I baby my Max, so I would not plan on heading up to that speed again anytime soon. Highway cruising at a constant 75mph while generating just a tad over 3k RPM is fantastic, good fuel economy, and decent power on tap for passing without downshifting to 4th. This is definitely a world-class V6 engine.

It's funny. We're talking about a car with a V6. In the 70's and 80's it was about all about V8's. They hate us.
