Has anyone tried the 5th gen variable intake on a 4th Gen??

I was wondering if this has been tried? I figure it would give the benefits of increased torque without the big drop in power at the low end that the MEVI has. I have a 99, and there is no way to increase the rev limiter that I know of, and was thinking this might work. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to see if this has been done since I am ready to put on the 70mm TB from a Pathfinder, and figure if there is a good time to do this, it's now.

yeah, it's been done by a couple of guys; check the General Maxima Discussion forum. It takes a lot of work and custom fabrication to do.

I want to do this, but I need to know if our TB bolts up to the manifold. Don't worry about the IACV.

HUH?? A dual runner intake manifold is a VI. And the 5th gen VI isn't a dual runner setup BTW. It's very similar to the MEVI because it uses a resonance chamber to increase top-end.

No it wont bolt on but it would be very easy to make a spacer for what you want.

Get a piece of aluminum 1/2 inch to a inch put a 60mm hole in it with a metal hole saw (dont use a drill) or a lathe which im sure would only cost a few dollers. Then drill four holes for the 5th gen manifold get a counter sink bit to bury the heads of the bolts so the tb can fit over it. For all my threaded TB bolts i always use a 5/16 tap after i drill it makes it easier on me,get a tapping chart to decide what sizes to drill and tap if it fits thru the TB holes you can use any size you want.

Just make sure that when you screw on the TB that if the bolts wont go all the way thru without touching the IM then get a shorter bolt because if you tighten against the manifold and dont relize it you will bust it.

So the TB will be at an angle correct?

Also I know you had to drill a hole for the brake booster hose, any other lines I should know of that I will have to re-map?

no the 5th gen brake booster spot is the same and it is just a plug on affair. The 96 im brake booster fitting was used for the evap on the 00 im because the sizes were the same so i just tapped the plastic and threaded it in it screws right out of the 96 im.

The TB will be at a more extreme angle than the pathy TB becuase the way the stock holes are compared to the 5th gen.

Every year max is different for instance a 95-96 max intake manifold is different so a 95 and 96 max route would be slightly different.

Well my 97 was built in June or July of 96 so it should be the same.

So really I should not have any probs installing this.

Oh yeah, how are your injectors? Any possible way to use the 4th gen injectors?

krismax has exceded their stored private messages quota and can not accept further messages until they clear some space.

I really don't want to get the 70mm TB, because after I get this, my next mod will prob be ECU and that is it. But if I can get the extra money, I will buy that.
