anoying noise coming from front wheels at low speeds... PLEASE HELP!

Does anyone have an idea of what would cause an anoying noise that would come from the front wheels? i dont know if i would call it a whistle or a squeel, but what ever it is it is really really embarasing. i only hear it at low speeds and i notice that when i hit my brakes it also seems to stop until i lift my foot from the brake pedal. what could this be, im not sure it might just be one side but im thinking it might be both. Please help me, i cant stand it anymore i have been dealing with this for about a month now. thanks in advanced!

Sounds like a sticking caliper and/or worn brake pads. You may also have a warped rotor. I am not sure how saavy you are with brakes, but you may want to look into those suggestions.

Check for play between caliper and the pads. Also, put the car in neutral and rotate wheels before you take them off. This will give you an idea if the caliper is sticking and if the rotor is warped (it may grab at certain locations).

I have the same issue with my 97 se and also my 96 se. I was getting a steady squeel on my 96
(it wasnt loud just annoying). Now I have the same issue with my 97. same noise but its intermitent. I now also have a sound like a cricket on my front drivers side that is intermitent as well.

Not knowing the sound, I cant tell you for sure, but when my wheel bearings started going, I heard a squeal. If it is a wheel bearing, you'll know for sure soon. It will start making an AWFUL racket soon.

Sounds like some of you guys need to check your brake pads. There's a metal tab on the pad that rubs on the rotor to warn you there getting low. If you don't change them soon after you get the grinding noise of metal on metal. This could ruin your rotors by putting deep grooves in them.

I have this going on too...It really is embarrassing...I cleaned my brakes with brake cleaner, then took out my pads and put some brake lubricant where necessary, and the problem was solved...for about 3 days...Kinda made me mad, because two tiny packets of lubricant cost like $8.00. Anyway, I'm not sure exactly what it is either...wish I knew exactly what was going on...I'll be checking back to see what you guys come up with...LOL. Thanks....

$8.00? What did you use? Anti-squeal lubricant is only $1.00 a packet at autozone. Did you apply it correctly? It might be the type of pads your using. Some have different contents.

It was this "premium brake anti squeal lubricant" stuff. I got the more expensive one in the hopes it would for sure cure my squeal. As for my pads, they have about 5,000 miles on them. I got them a while back at Napa. I got the premium ones (MSRP: $79.99) for the front wheels. I got them when they had a half price on all merchandise day. I automatically figured for $80 regular price, that there should be enough pads to cover all four rotors, but there were only four pads, so I replaced the fronts only. And it's only the front ones i have a problem with...HMMMM...Could it be my rotors?...oh, and i forgot to mention, after i put those pads on, I had a LOT of brake dust compared to the OEM ones...this happened even though the box said it had Very low amounts of brake dust...I'm lost....*sigh.....

I think its the bearings too. Is the sound like a high pitched whine? Kinda like if you run your fingers across piece of vinyl?

alright hate to bring this thread back from the dead but anyway... i finally went outside to try and see if it was a sticking caliper. it doesnt seem to be the problem. also my pads have plently of meat on them how ever the driver side does have groves in them, but they were there before this started just they have gotent bigger and i dont know what that is either even tho i have taken the brakes apart and found nothing! anyway so my only other thought would be maybe its a wheel bearing. how long would it take before the awfull sound developes, and how much is it to replace this? is it easy to do when lowering my car, i am doin that soon?

my front left wheel is making a sound like rubber tires on a indoor rubber basketball court kind of sound. I thought it was my wheel bearing, but from what I hear on the org, that is more of a high pitched squeal. Any ideas on what this could be?

bump..

Oh, and GTO400no1, what kind of brake pads are you using? It could just be chunks of metal in the pads that have recently been exposed. Just a thought.
