affordable no-squeal brakes
My 1995 GXE has 140k miles on it. I have Midas Lifetime VST brakes on it, and they squeal after about 5k miles. What are some types / brands of affordable brakes that don't squeal for their effective life? I don't want to sink too much into the brakes because of the mileage, although I don't plan on getting rid of the Max until I have to.
I pay about $60-80 each time for the Midas installation, and am willing to pay about $50 more for better brakes.

Do you plan on doing the brake-installation yourself? If you plan on taking it back to Midas, I doubt that they will install any parts other than their own AND maintain their warranty... so let me clarify, they might install any pads you provide them, but won't warranty/guarantee the installation.
If you plan on doing the install yourself, I think most of the squealing problems people experience are from improper installation - not the big things (like seating the pads correctly, etc.), but the little things like cleaning the pad retaining clips, re-lubing the caliper pins, using the anti-squeal goop etc. Using a good pad, e.g. OEM replacements ($60), Raybestos QuietStop ($40-50) will also help eliminate squeal. Some cheap pads will squeal no matter how well they are installed.
