Trying to decided on paint

Im gonna get my car painted next week, and Im trying to decide what color to go with. Ive narrowed it down to Silver Pearl, Deep Blue, Chrysler Crossfire Red (that deep red-orange type color), or repainting it stock graphite pearl again. I was gonna hold off of the rims and get them in mid august, but I'm thinking of going ahead and getting them if the right deal strikes me.

A repaint is too costly to do right. Just spend the money on some rims and be happy. It will look good if you get the right ones.

Unless you spend upwards of $3k, you may not be happy with the outcome of a color change paint job. If you don't get it done right, your door jambs, trunk underside, hood underside and engine compartment will be the original color. Also, I would suggest taking longer than a week to choose a color, pick one and really think about it for a while so that you will be happy with it for a long time. It's taken me 4 months to decide on the wheels I want, and I'm glad I waited because I've changed my mind about 5 times.

I wasnt really worried about the paint, but I have some scratches and I tried to fix them with that 2 in 1 scratch pen thing. It didnt go too well and I'm just not happy with the paint now. I grosses me out and I wanna get it repainted, but I dont know if I want rims first or what?

Try some serious buffing and polishing. Use wet sanding to get those out. You have to be careful, but it could help. Read up on it a lot before you try it out, so that you can know how to do everything.

Yea, but is there a way to get that 2 in 1 scratch pen paint off, because it looks terrible.

Ever think of not changing the color? If so you can just get whatever panel you messed up with the pen repainted and save yourself a few thousand dollars.

Hairline scratches are not really fixable via touch up paint. Touch up paint is more for chips where there is enough room to possibly sand, get paint in there, build it up layer by layer and then sand/buff again. If this wasn't a pen matched to the color of the car specifically then your results are almost guaranteed to be garbage.

You could try wetsanding the places where you tried to touch up....you might be able to fix it somewhat...hell...it might even turn out better than it was before you tried the touch up but I dunno...hard to tell without pics.

Be *VERY VERY* careful wetsanding. Go to autopia.org and read up in the forums. Use VERY light wetsanding paper (2500 grit probably) soak the paper and run water over the area as you GENTLY sand. Then you'll need to buff out the sanding marks with some polish...Meguiar's DACP, Menzerna FP, Meguaiars SMR....something.

If you're serious about your paint problems and/or want to keep your new paint in good shape check out the detailing board here and the forums on autopia.org. It sounds like you want good results, but it also sounds like you might not know that much about detailing...maybe...just guessing. You might be able to clean up whatever other problems exist in your paint, get the panels that are scratched and have the bad touchup paint repainted, and be totally satisfied with the results. Way way WAY cheaper than a repaint and WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY cheaper than a color change.

Its not in terrible condition, its just I'm not happy with it right now, I dont know what I was thinking with that scratch pen. But I have a friend who works at a car painting place and I could get a really good deal. He painted another friends car Kameleon orange to yellow (hideous, but it was a honda accord, go figure) and he painted the door jambs, under trunk, and under hood. It looks really good. And he did it for 600 dollars. And that was a color change from blue to kameleon.

I went to my local library and check out a book on Auto Detailing: The Professional Way. Just throwing that out there if you're interested. This was very very helpful to me.

going to the chameleon paint prolly hides quite a bit though. I mean, you cannot see some stuff, because the color changes anyway.

The touchup paint is not on as strong, so you should be able to take it off without taking off the stock stuff. I saw somebody at work do it. I'm not sure what he used, maybe mineral spirits or turpentine (I'll check if I remember). Just be quick and wash it off. Somebody might be able to tell you what to use, but I have seen it done. Also I'm going to try that langka stuff (they were talking about it in the detailing forum), I already ordered it and I'll let you know how it goes.

All insurance companies charge you more for any kind of red color. It's a cop-magnet. Why wouldn't it go up?

If i were you just play it safe and go with the deep blue maxima look. That would look hotter.
