Ok, I'm in Indiana for the summer and in the past month I've been pulled over twice for sound violations. No this isn't my stereo, it's my exhaust. Ever since I put my y-pipe on my exhaust has been louder than all Heck. Sure at idle it growls like a V8, but once I mash it, it's rice city. Well it's not as bad as your typical ricer, but it's too rice for me and Im Asian. At WOT it's so bad that my door pannels rattle! It's also got a really really bad rasp to it.

Currenty I'm running 2.25" non-resonated crush bent piping and a generic muffler. I was thinking of getting this fart can chopped off and get a nice muffler, perhaps a magnaflow, borla, ect and maybe a resonator.

Im looking for suggestions, and part numbers if possible. I dont wanna buy a full catback system, as most of the ones available for our cars, IMO, sound like Crap. Im looking for a realitivly cheap alternative, because I wanna get MEVI by the end of the summer.

Get a stock muffler and add a resonator to the mid-pipe. That will quiet it down a lot. You can pick up a stock muffer of someone on the org (in the classifieds) for probably 60-70 bucks ... any muffler shop should be able to add a resonator to your b-pipe for 30-40 bucks.

 

R E S O N A T O R, that happened to me until I got one. Even if you get a muffler it will still have that annoying rasp, though toned down a bit, it will still be there. I had a straight muffler, no cat, crush bent cat back, and the day I put my y-pipe, I was unhappy to say the least, but after a new muffler, didnt go away, just toned down slightly, but after the resonator, 28", purrs real nice. No rasp.


BTW, when you coming back to NM, you know a few other Alb guys be interested in a possible meet? I'm only 1.5 hrs away.

 

I got my stock 4th Gen muffler sitting in my garage, but I like to have my car noticeably louder than stock. So you think that just adding a huge *** resonator would help?

Im should be back by the 10th of August.

 

My car's still deep, especially off a roll, everything vibrates, I dont have my stock muffler on its some "turbo" BS, but it sounds good, definately not stock sounding at all.

Since I am outta state the cop just let me go, but still being pulled over for this crap sucks. I always freak out. heh.
Anyway, I spent a total of $250 on the catback.

 

yes, resonator should help out a lot.
Get that for like $50 and see how you like it then.

 

I have a Apex WS catback and it sounds great, has the growl sound all the way through the RPM range and it doesn't get loud at all untill ~3500 RPM. If you looking to get a new muffler, this one is the choice. It is somewhat hard to find now though. I got mine a couple years back still looks brand new though.
