People who swapped to a 5spd... info plz.

I've done some poor research to see how much a swap would cost.
Another thing is, if I am going to swap, might as well do it right.
The list goes something like this...

Used Tranny = $1000
Flywheel = $500
S2 Clutch = $500
Differential = $1500
STS = $200
MT ECU = $600

I'm probably missing a lot more stuff... and also labor...

Does that seem right??? Cuz I'm looking at about 6g's and I'm thinking... I could get a manual i30 with a differential for about that price....

What exactly did you guys do and how much did it cost you?

Those prices are way, way too high.

just off the top of my head..

Tranny = $400
Flywheel = $300 for a lightend findanza
Clutch = $300
Differential = not really sure, but no way it's $1500
STS= $100
MT ECU = $150

Well, no... not exactly...
I just did some price searching and rounded them up.
Ebay tranny was like 850 plus shipping...
Flywheel at some store was like 450ish...
Clutch... I kinda guessed.
I think I found the differential at Cattman for 1395ish...
and the ecu is a MT ecu plus JWT reprogramming.

But basically, you're saying that the project could be done for about 2-3 g, right?

I talked with the guy who wrote the how-to and he said it shouldn't cost more than a grand if you get all the parts you need from a single donor car.

You need to find a wrecked 5spd max at a junkyard and it is alot easier. You can't just buy a tranny from ebay and slap it on. There are many shifter brackets, clutch pedal, and various other little things to get. Stock flywheel from a junkyard is like $50, Fidanza in $330. Cattam still has the quaife on their site, but you can't get it anymore, so mark that off the list. You don't need JWT programming for a 5spd swap, so you don't have to do that at the same time. You should be able to do it for way less than $2k.

That's exactly what I am going to do...

But for the tranny, do you think it would be worth it to pay a little bit more for a 2000 - 2001 tranny? (Stronger 3rd gear, and no bearing probs), or would a 4th gen tranny be fine?

Hey if a later generation maxima's tranny fits, would it be better to find a 6spd 5th gen and use it's engine parts as well as it's tranny?
I think the 6spds also has a lsd.

thoughts?

I would get the 5th gen 5speed tranny, I read that the 1st and 3rd are stonger, so might as well do everything right the first time.
