I just bought a '97 Maxima GXE and discovered that the power antenna doesn't seem to work. Is this a common problem? Is it most likely the antenna motor or perhaps a blown fuse? Any advice would be appreciated

If it's not going down at all, and you don't hear a whirring sound when you try to lower it, it might be the antenna motor or a fuse.

But if there is whirring sound, it may just be gunk build-up.

Where you live? Is it cold? It's a common problem with antennas not going down when the weather is cold.

Mine was sticking, so this is what I did. Extend it all the way up, sprayed it with WD40, wiped it down to get all the gunk off, lowered it, raised it again, sprayed more WD40, wiped, lowered, raised, a little bit more WD40.

You get the idea.

Post back with more details about the problem. (Whirring? No whirring? Up all the way and then down just a lil? Won't go down at all?)

No whirring sound at all. It was up all the way when I bought it last Thursday and remains there now. I bought it from the original owner here in the DFW, TX metroplex, so it has never seen very cold weather.

They do, I have one. It could be in the Security and Convenience package though, b/c I have that.

According to edmunds.com (and my owners manual), the power antenna is part of the standard equipment for a '97 GXE.

Dude, I am having the same problem. I already bought the part to replace. You probably don't need the motor, you'll just need the stem to replace. I get all my parts from Courtesy Nissan on the web. Give them a call.
