Transmission Blew Up -I30 LSD Swap questions
Guys the transmission in my 5 speed max blew up on Friday night.
I am planning on getting an LSD tranny from an infiniti I30.
I want to order one today if possible.
I was told that I also need to purchase the driver side axel from that car.
Anyway my question is whether or not I can purchase the tranny from any LSD equipped 96-99 I30 or do I need a 1998 for my 1998 Maxima.
I am assuming the entire generation is equipped with the same tranny but I prefer not to make that assumption with such a costly piece of equipment.

1996 Max Engine & Tranny a direct swap with 1998 I30?
I have a 1996 Maxima that I have -babied- for the 10 years I have owned it.
I got rear-ended HARD...
I am now looking at a 1998 I30.
I am considering keeping the 1996 Max around for the engine and tranny in case the I30 needs an engine and tranny.
Is this a direct -no problem- uncomplicated, direct swap?
Would it be as easy as going from one 1996 max to another 1996 max?
If not, what is the problem with that plan? Which plugs, wires, sensors will not fit?
Any insight on this please?

^this. i believe its the spline count thats different that goes into the tranny that makes it a requirement...but since you will keep the car, you will have all the parts you need to make the transition with no problems

You'll be fine if you go VLSD in your 98' Max. Any 4g or 5g trans will work. Of course, LSD is better (hence the reason you're going with that I guess! ) If you need a quick write up 'how to' see my sig link. At least you can use some / most of it. I give a list of all the tools needed to R+R and sort of the proper procedure. G'luck with the swap!
