I want an exhaust mod,... Y pipe????
I got an intake already, now I want something done on my exhaust, but I had loud sounds. I was thinking of changing the y pipe only. Will this give any good gains? What should I expect out of it? How will it sound? What are my options, concerned about durabililty and pricing.
Thanks,

It's not going to make any noticeable difference as far as the exhaust note (stock exhaust). Under hard acceleration it might rattle, and there is gonna be a little additional noise coming from the dash area.
As far as performance. I felt a difference, some people don't. I only had the maxima for a month so I really can't remember what it felt like before, but I do remember the car feeling more rowdy.
This is a vid clip of my car with just HAI, y-pipe, and 2K muffler:

oh geez... i dont have one yet so i cant help you there bud...
sorry!
there is a lot of threads about exhaust related products which contain a lot of peoples input on sounds... my suggestion is to go back a couple of pages and read them. yeah they are long arguments, but you can get a pretty good idea of different tones... ill see if i can find one i remember.
hope it helps

it wont make that much noticeable difference. get a y pipe for sure. its a must. u just hear a little growl at start up and when u begin to step on accelerator. @ idle during cold starts, ur muffler is little bit louder. thats about it...
get ready to get pinned @ 4k rpm

the thing growled like a beast.... Is this all the time. Or only under hard acceleration like how an intake is. Because that pipe is right under the driver and passenger, so does it cause vibration? And how much louder can I expect at different rpms? I dont have a heavy foot, most of the time. Right now I just got an intake. and its quiet under 3000-3500. that i can deal with.
Thanks for the help

The intake is where you hear the deep growling noise.
The y-pipe may rattle on the crossmember, or have some very minor leak that an exhaust shop can fix for cheap in a few minutes. I'm not saying all rattle, but it is very common.
It's a $160 part shipped, and you get 15WHP average. Can't go wrong with that. Once installed and settled, the only additional noise you will hear on your maxima from a warpspeed y-pipe is more air flowing around the dash and under shifter area.
I have read (from a ton of people) that y-pipe does not sound that great with most exhausts. Many with aftermarket mufflers have gone back to stock after adding a y-pipe because it will be raspy on a straight-through exhaust to varying extents.
Here are (2) videos taken at the exact same intersection. If you can tell me which one is HAI alone, and which one is HAI + the y-pipe then you are a lucky guesser, or remember when I posted them.

Just order it.

so how will it sound with a complete stock exhaust sytem, just the ypipe and intake. If it will sound like a civic or accord, thats the end of this thread because I'm no longer interested. Im gonna try and see if i can open those files and hear the sound. Will I gain 15hp with a y pipe and everything else stock in the exhaust?
Thanks

Hate to tell you this but they y-pipe gives 0HP when coupled with altezzas. Sorry. Believe me or not but the front O2 sensors actually check for a specific kind of tail light fluid only found in the original tail lights. If it senses a different kind it goes back to a preset "stock" fuel map and you're back to square one.

okay, Warpspeed Y-Pipe if you choose this, you'll definatly get a rattle around the shifter/ parking brake area. solution, lower cross member by a couple of washers.
I myself have the Frankencar intake with the warpspeed. with stock b-pipe and stock muffler. Sounds really good. not ricey not too loud just right.

Get the y-pipe. It's well worth it. If I were to do all my mods all over, I would had gotten the y-pipe as soon as I can. You DO feel the difference as so I tested it against a friend of mine. With it, I pulled an extra length on him from a start. I have the Warpspeed one and noticed no rattle sounds some member says. Sounds near stock to me but when I start up the car, you can hear a soft purr from the stock exhaust.
