what do you think others think of the 4th gen?

lets say your average bone stock 97-99 SE.

what do you think non-maxima owners think of it. the majority that is....

"ahh, just another 4 door?
pos old *** maxima ?
damn that thing is sexy !!
quick and reliable engine under the hood !
i wish i had one !
if its not a BMW, it sucks !"

i'd say "just another four door" would be the most frequent thought if a random person was asked what they thought of the 4th gen Maxima. Only a few would know it has the VQ30 (ive had someone ask me if it was a 4 cyl or the 6 cyl), only people with BMWs would say if its not a BMW it sucks (although I am currently looking to buy a BMW to replace my maxima). . . no one really thinks the maxima is a total piece of **** old *** car, its not really THAT old.

well i think people would give it the same respect that they give to an accord or camry, as far as performance, cause in allot of races when im lined up and they only see my side i get mistaken for a camry, i remember once when i whooped this accord, when we met up at the light again he said "dude if i knew u had a maxima i woulda never raced", i started laughing and asked him what did u think i had, he said a camry.

i think when people see our car, they immediately think 4 door, reliable family sedan. thats the way i felt until i bought mine;-)

nobody knows about the sleeper factor

i had a smart ricer in a camry (94 or so) pull up next to me(right side). 2 people inside and both about 16 and 17. outta no where the passenger leans forward as i was looking at them and then goes " u want to race?" before i had a chance to even accept or pass on, i hear the driver look at the passenger and say "thats a MAXIMA you IDIOT". i was laughin my *** off and didnt even bother to talk to them !

I love the look of our cars...I've had nothing but compliments since i got my 96SE....someone mistook it as a 2000 the other day, the body is still quite sporty. My friend and I (he also has a 96 but a GLE) turn heads everywhere we go. A lot of people underestimate agility of the car, but if I drop the clutch and take off they are left with their tongues on the ground, my cars stock, to...performance wise.

Since I was a little girl, I've always thought fourth gen Maximas were sexy as h*ll. I think the reputation of Nissan coupled with the hawt look of this car is enough to make anyone look twice & consider owning one.

I had a guy at a light ask me to roll down my window the other day. He asked me what kind of car I had, and what year it was(he was driving a newer Volvo sedan). I told him, and he was surprised that it was a 96. He said it was a very nice car and complemented the OEM superblack paint job. I told him it was actually kind of dirty at the time because the day before I had just gotten back from my trip to Northern California (600 miles of bugs and dust).

a lot of ppl underrate the maxima, and put it off as just another 4 door sedan, with nuttin special, but then there are those who actually know y the maxima stands out from the other cars in its class.

obviously there are better looking and performing cars that came out from 97-99, but i think the maxima is one of hte best mixes of looks, performance, and affordability.

I drove a sohc civic for 8 years. On a good day, that car with I/H/E/etc... ran 16.2@85 in the quarter.

In 1993, I drove an 1993 Maxima SE 5-Speed for a little while in high school. So, I have always been aware that even an auto maxima, like the one I own now would probably beat the civic in a race. Anything from a roll, forget it, the civic loses.

95% of drivers don't care. A maxima could be a camry (seen it on COPS), or like the other day when a mechanic asked me if my car was an altima.

The other 5% or so of us that are into cars know that 4th gens are 14-15 second, heavy as ****, entry-level luxo cars. Depending on where you are on the automotive food chain, the max can be seen as pretty quick or dog slow.

A dude in a V8 camaro or stang, boosted DSM, etc - probably won't give you a second look unless your car is rice. An intercooler or BOV will definitely make them think twice.

To the ricers in 16-19 seckkund land, our cars are freakin ferraris. A 5-speed 4th gen could start in 2nd gear and school a 4cyl accord. I've seen those things run almost 20 seconds in the 1/4. Same with kias, base civics, etc.

The overall impression as someone who wanted a 4th gen in 1996 when I bought my civic...

I saw them as very consistent, quick cars. There is no way you can fu<k up a race in an auto maxima. And the 5-speed isn't too hard to drive either. I never raced them in my civic except for a few at MMP because I knew I was gonna lose to a 4-door family sedan.

I was looking for my first car, and while I was on my car search the Maxima cought my eye. Before I discovered the max, I was looking at getting either an Accord/Integra/Eclipse, something like that. I researched the max, found this forum, and was looking for a max for about a month and a half and finally picked one up.

Some of my friends (inexperienced with cars) were doubting my decision to get a max at first, but after seeing the car and its slick looks and nice engine they love it. And I'm in love w/ it

Not sure where the "heavy as ****" came from as the max is fairly light for it's size and class.

I think if its clean and well kept, they would say nice car.
But it is underestimated. For some reason people think civics are fast from the factory... i will never understand this concept. Not to mention their interior... Granted the Max does not have the best of interiors, but for a Japanese car its really nice. Now the Civic's interior looks like crap. There is no argument there.

I always got good comments in my 95. People always thought it was newer than it was, and when I told them the mileage on it, they about **** themselves(160k).

I had old guys in newer 2k2s and 2k3s always givin me looks when I pulled up. One old guy even asked me what I think he could do to make his car look as clean as mine.

For the most part, people probably just think it's no different that any other sedan. The guy at firestone mistook my car for the lowered 4 door civic sitting next to it.

And one more thing, ScarfaceTHX, that civic may not be fast, but it's clean! Very nice work.

I can understand being mistaken for a camry or accord, it happens. However, if a mechanic of anysort that that my car was a civic, I would slap him to the ground and pack up my toys and leave that sandbox because anyone that stupid had better not get anywhere near my car with wrench!

I get some comments about how clean mine is pretty often as well. I think if it's a well-kept maxima, even with just slight modifications anyone that knows anything about cars might pay some attention.

I'm going for the very subtle changes, I think the cars style is pretty damn good to begin with; I only want to accent it a little. DIY red/clears and DC front bumpers, PIAA's etc.

Last week I was going to wendy's for food on my break, and when I went out to my car there was a kid standing inbetween a white max next to mine and my car, looking into mine. When I got over there I talked to him for a minute, he said he was part of the ORG too. He said I should cut down my shifter, little did he know it was already a b&m sts Oh well, like I said it's the little things... even if only I know it.
