I just recently got a '98 GXE and I don't know if I have keyless entry ability or not. The dealership only had an aftermarket remote that came with the car upon trade in and it doesn't work. I have the red security light in my car but it never lights upand I have no factory remote. How do I find out if I have keyless and remote rolldown (because I think it's pretty cool) and if I do, do I just need a factory remote?

 

hmmm... I thought if you have a light (located on the left side of the dash), then you should have a factory alarm system. If I remember right, if you close the door, and then use the key to lock the car, the light will come on. I haven't use this for a long time since I got my remote.

When I bought my Max used, it didn't come with a remote either. I bought one on ebay for $25 (I think) and program it. There are instructions online. Just use Google.

 

Open the trunk and remove the side panel on the passanger side. There should be a silver box mounted on the side. If it is then you have it, if it isn't you don't have it.

 

Is this really how it is? I open that panel and don't see a box in there, but my Security light flashes when I get out and lock the doors with the key. I have a '99 SE with the NVIS key. Didn't get a remote when I bought it used, but I keep getting told conflicting ways of detecting if I have the keyless system or not.

 

Yep. The silver box is the "BRAIN" for the keyless system.
