Always Illuminated Clock work on 4th gen??

i have a 96 and i hate when i have to turn my lights on during daytime/dusk and the clock dims almost to where i can't see it clearly. i was wondering if the same procedure applies as to 5th gen's. i got the info from the 5th gen forun and it says to cut the red wire with the blue tracer. anyone have any info on this mod and/or drawbacks associated with it. thanks for all help.

It says that there are 4 wires there. "Cut the wire which is red with a blue tracer."
What exactly is a blue tracer? or does it mean just cut the red wire?

you will find a red wire, and on it, theres a thin blue line, thats the one you cut

Since we're on the subject, is there a way to make the clock get brighter with the "bright" setting on the dimmer switch? I'd like to be able to see the clock with the same brightness that the stereo head unit and the hvac controller have on the dash when the headlights are on. The clock is the only one of the three that does not go "bright" when you put the dimmer switch all the way to the detent. Suggestions?
