BOSE Problem

Hey Guys,

Here's my problem: My BOSE radio display seems to fade in and out as it pleases. Actually, its fades out enough so that there's nothing visible at all. It happens at random times and is unpredictable when I get in the car when the radio will show up or not. The funny thing is that the radio/cd player/cassette all work fine, but you can't see anything!

Please help.

Is it that easy to just hook a new unit to a BOSE system though?

just need to buy the harness, bracket, female attenna adaptor and a headunit. putting an after market headunit will utilize the bose speakers fully.

A new headunit will not make the system sound better. The Bose systems are acoustically designed to work with each other. Every part is critical to have the correct acoustical balance. A new headunit may sound better if by better you mean it has louder bass or treble, but contrary to common belief more bass and treble do not make things sound better. If you do decide to go with a new head unit, I would suggest getting an Alpine or other high end hu, because most of these only have line out like the Bose hus do. The lower end hu's already supply speaker level output and the adaptor has to convert to line level. With a speaker level unit and the Bose speakers the output will be amplified twice which will result in a loss of quality in the signal. Another problem is that most aftermarket units have an impedence of 4/8 ohms and the Bose speakers are only 1 ohm. This will also result in degradation. I have the same problem with the display except mine is the opposite and decides to be visible less often than not. I am thinking that it is a transistor inside the head unit connected to the display. If i get mine working I will let you all know what was the problem.
