Trunk Lock

Hello everyone. Just bought a 99' SE Auto and absolutely love it. Everything works great except that the key will not open the trunk. The trunk button works great on both the door and the remote, but not with the key. As I can tell there is no damage to the trunk lock. Do Maximas have a two key system like the old Chevy's or is there something I'm missing here?

Thanks in advance everyone....

Edward

I got mine rekeyed at a hardware store. Cost me $10 and works like a charm now. Pm me if you need help getting the lock out so that you can take it in, or pick up a haynes manual.

You might have a valet key (did they even make these for our cars? I don't have one, but I bought mine used and only got one key)...It it is a valet key, it will not open the glove box or the trunk... see if the key works in the glove box (I believe the valet key does not open the glove box - I am fairly sure it will not open the trunk). The idea behind the valet key is you can disable the trunk button in the car and on the remote via the latch near the lock mechanism, and give the valet the key that doesn't work on the trunk lock - so you have a "safe" storage spot... of course - in the maxima we have the access via the rear seat center armrest - so not sure what good it does...

I am not sure to tell you the truth.. maybe someone else knows whether or not the maximas came with valet keys... perhaps that information might be in the regular service manual that comes with the car... you may want to look in there.
