Engine swap??? '95 to '99
Engine swap??? '95 to '99
I have a Maxima '95 that died a week ago. It's engine just blew.
Now I found a junk yard that has a number of engines in stock, from like '96, '98, and I think '99.
I'll prolly get an engine with transmission and had this question: what is involved in an engine swap? If I want to pop a '99 one in my '95, do I need to get anything else (ECU, harness and whatever else)?
Hope smb. can help me out to figure out my options.

The engines for 95-99 Maximas and 96-99 Infiniti I30s are the same so they will work fine (no extra stuff needed). 2000-2001 Maximas also have the same engine, but the intake manifold and a few other things are different.
The tranny for 95-99 Maxima is the same. The 96-99 I30 tranny is different since it has vLSD. If you want to put in the I30 tranny then you'll need to replace the passenger side(?) axle to support the vLSD feature.
Only the front driver side wheel gets power on a Maxima, but with the vLSD both of the front wheels will get power (better in wet conditions and stuff).

I want to get a fresher engine obviously and the last time I talked to them they had like '99 with 6k miles on it, but all their engines been sitting in their warehouse/containers for all that time, and I'm kinda afraid of that.
How does it work with engines that sit for so long? Is there anything I should look at when checking/choosing an engine? I'm kinda afraid that I might to put one in and it doesn't start or something :dunno:
I think they want like $670 for an engine. Is it a good price? How much should I expect to pay for transmission with that?

$670 for a 99 engine w/ 6k is a good price for the amount of miles it has. Not sure what exactly to look for, but they should give you some kind of warranty with it (like 6 month or 1 year). My only advice is do an oil change, not sure what else to say. If the engine comes with the coil packs, then keep your old coil packs since the 99 coil packs have problems with going bad.

I bought a 96 motor with 29k on it for $500.
Now, they look the same except my new one has some sort of a small tube with a throttle in it that sits on or around injector rail.
Does anybody know what i'm talking about?
Sorry, I saw it only at night, and my farther in law who is doing the swap found that difference today, so I'm not sure how to describe it. I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them.

Fuel pressure regulator ??
I know that 99' engines have extra emissions stuff on it and they have a aculator type device right down from the throttle body near the upper intake pelenium

Well its an open diff...if enough power is going down, the power will slightly transfer to the other wheel. Thats why it is still possible to do a 2 wheel burn out in an Open Diff maxima.

I would just bypass it...either take it off or plug it up...its most likely a part that runs off of vaccum so just plug the vaccum side up. Your ECU is not programmed for that part...
