sounds like clutch skillz need some work ? your doing the right thing though, just keep on trucking ! lol

i have driven manuals since i was a small punk kid preparing for my drivers license lol ! I dont know what to say except you have had something like 3 weeks with your 5 speed. you are going to need more time.

go to the regional section and find some guys in florida who can drive around with you and see what is going on. sooner or later you will get the feel of it. good luck !

if you're on the gas real hard and get up above 4000 rpm no shift is going to be *smooth* ... it's all relative

I need help too, a lot. I practiced for like 10 minutes on a friends mustang and today I drove 20 miles and picked up a 5spd and drove it back, smart huh? Shut off on me twice, the worst part, it wasn't while I was driving. Is the clutch engagement point all the way at the top or a bit before?

Bump.

everyone's clutch is going to be a little bit different depending on how much clutch is left etc. it's supposed to have some sophisticated mechanisms (i.e. hydraulic slave cylinders) that mostly keep the feel of the pedal the same throughout the life of the clutch; but it isn't perfect of course.

but, it should be relatively close to the same. I would say my clutch begins to grab between 1/2 and 2/3 way up .. like 3/5 i guess you could say. but it doesnt really move until the last 1/3 most definitely.

take your car out of gear with it running, and very slow let up on the clutch until you see the rpm's go down. that's your catch point, that's when you need to give it gas. put it in gear and then once you hit the catch point try and feather the gas to keep the rpm's constant at about 1500 until your foot is off the clutch (should be like 3-5 mph that you can get your foot off the clutch completely.)

once you do that you can drive it like an automatic .. don't go near the damn clutch once your foot is off it!! unless you're shifting of course.

first gear will be very jerky until you're experienced as very smoothly giving it gas, just stick with 2nd gear and up. you can do pretty much anything except a dead stop in 2nd.

if you roll through stops like 99% of the world you dont even need to touch 1st, you can keep it in 2nd down to idle and you'll only be moving a few mph.

I will be living near Boyton Beach in a few days. Maybe we can get together. But I can't really show you how to drive a stick since I only know alot about automatics. I know my automatic launches and shifts perfectly everytime! I'm sure we'll meet sometime.

my clutch is on the floor..couple inches up and it grabs...i ride my clutch too much but my shifts are always smooth... 1st to 2nd, maybe if you let the clutch just a tad slower...won't screech your tires and a little harder on the clutch, but it wont jump.....when im the only one in the car i usually just drop the clutch in every gear and put up the jumpyness...

I hope you don't ride alone a lot or you can kiss your clutch goodbye

u can start from a stop in 2nd gear. i do it all the time. if ur goin WOT from 1st to 2nd ur gonna get a jerk...if it doesnt, ur not doin it right. so i dont burn up my clutch, i try to feather and be off the clutch by 1k rpm in 1st. i dont know if that helps, but it makes me feel better inside. the key to second gear, on a normal acceleration, is that u cant just pop off the clutch as u would in 3rd-5th. u have to feather off the clutch slightly otherwise ur gonna get that jumpy feeling. when shifting 3-5, u can just pop off right away, no prob.
