hi
i bought an injen CAI for my 96 maxima from a trusted ORG friend. He's not online at the moment but i'd like to clear this up before i get into my garage and try to install this thing.
I have 2 seperate pipes and a filter with the adapter attached to it. Is that all? I feel like thre's a 3rd long pipe missing... not sure. ill post pics, but can someone tell me how many peices there should be? thanks

nope only 2 pipes, 1 that goes from TB to MAF, then 1 that goes from MAF to filter down by radiator. just 2 pieces, other than that you need the MAF adaptor plate, some hose, and the couplings, im pretty sure thats it.
heres a pic of my injen knock off, basicly same design

sweet thanks, yeah i was just checkin before goin in garage. sweet, it felt like our engine bays were bigger lol.
gonna slap this thing on!

okay.....
now im confused on how the MAF goes on. I thought the fitler attaches to the maf? If i put the maf at the end of the pipe, i dont' think there's enough play or length for the MAF connector to reach.

engine throttle body => mid pipe (the shorter of the two pipes) => MAF => pipe 2 (the longer, curved one) => cone filter.
okay i figured my problem out.... my franken car has a 4" maf adapter and 4" filter... looks like from what i have, i can only support 3".
im gonna go to home depot and see if i can get a 3 to 4" coupler.
Also figured that my stock rubber hoses that connect to the engine to intake are too short. Are those called PCV hoses?

No, not PCV. You should've gotten new hoses with the kit. If you didn't go to autozone and get them to cut you some new hoses. Which ones do you need? One that goes to the to the back of the throttle body, IACV hose, one that goes to the front valve cover, or the really small one that goes under the TB?
i think i need both the hose that comes from the engine and the one that comes from the throttle body... they look to be the same size. The tiny one is okay.
The one going to the back of the engine is bigger, trust me. That one is 3/4" and the one going to the front is 5/8" if I recall correctly.
alright thanks!
i'm goin to home depot to look for a coupler first... but i dont think they carry the kind of hoses you use in a car with high temp. They're silicon hoses right? what should i ask for?

thanks a bunch guys
yeah it looks like i had to bail on my 4" maf adapter and filter. Good thing I had my friend's short ram setup from his RSX.. had an almost brand-new AEM filter that fit so I got it installed now.
Here are some pics:

splash guard must have not come with the car when I bought it then because i never took that off.
i'll have to check that out, thanks for pointing it out.

looking at the picture of your install, it looks like you forgot to put the four nuts on the four bolts connecting the maf and the adapter plate, and you are missing the splash guard indeed
i dont think they need nuts because they're on there pretty tight and there's tread for the maf adapter/plate.
im gonna take a look at my friends' 97 maxima and see which splash guard i am missing then maybe call up a couple junkyards.
