After much debate...

As some of you may or may not know I have been going back and fourth between a 3erd or 4th for my first Max. After some research and sitting in a few at work I have decided to get a 4th. Few questions though how does not having IRS affect the handling on a 4th gen compared to a 3erd? also what should I look for in looking for a 97 and up 5 speed. Anything I should look out for? allergist TY for your time!!!!!

i think it's the 95-97 5spd's have trouble with their differential bearings, not being shimmed properly or something; that's a lot of $$ to fix. also, make sure your alternator's been replaced, as well as some kind of power steering clamp. both will be free because they were recalled. (i think this only applies to 97's or older). i can't vouch for the handling compared to a 3rd gen, but i've never had a problem with it. it's not a sports car, but i think it's passable.

the 99's have had no recalls at all, i have a 99 SE-L and i love it, all you gotta do is find a good deal, i got my car 3 months ago, and it came with 26000 miles on it, and i got it for 11000, i thought it was a great deal, just look around, ive heard that for modding, the 96 or 97 are the best, but i still love my 99 :-P
