Doesn't lock up at any specific RPM - it all depends on how much throttle you are applying, and your speed. You will see the RPMs drop for each main gear (3 times on our cars) and then you'll feel/or maybe won't feel, the RPMs drop again slightly - you'll see it on the tach. When OD kicks in, RPMs will drop 200-300. In your final OD gear (TQ locked) you'll be at abuot 2500 RPM at 70-72mph.

At part-throttle mine goes into lock-up at 42 MPH and when i'm coasting, slowing down without braking, it will come out of lock-up at 40 MPH. Also, if you apply the brakes you will notice that it will also go out of lock-up.

SterlingMax - good info... I never noticed that pressing the brakes caused the unlock too...

Yep, there is one exception though, if you are going faster than about 80 MPH and apply the brakes, it won't come out of lock-up until you are under 80.

I think that's a good question cos I've never paid enough attention to work it out. So it feels like a half-gear-change kind of thing when I'm in fourth and increasing speed? Can you always feel it or is it sometimes undetectable?

see im having a problem were it seems like OD is going into gear hard but it always seems when i count the shifts its the 5th one which i was assuming was the TQ. So what would be my problem if i can feel the TQ locking. Sometimes feels like my car is hitting a bump. I also have MT valve body installed

When I had the auto, I would notice the RPM would drop twice within like one second at around 40mph when I turned on O/D. Thought I had 5gears, oh well.

funny how you say that cause i feel it most around 40 mph and thats when i notice it drop twice...i usually think its already in OD and then it shifts again.....but i really dont think it should go in hard unless something is wrong but diagnosing a tranny problem is hard especially with the VB mod. Of course the other shifts are nice a crisp with no problem......i also never even thought about the TQ till today when i noticed it was like a 5th shift. I dont know anything about TQ's
