I just got 4 new tires put on the max. What is an average price for 4 new tires, mounted and balanced?

I just got new tires this weekend for the winter. Mine are BF Goodrich 205/65/15 Mounted and balanced with a 60,000 mile warranty and roadside assistance, cost me $330.00. I am not sure if that is a good price but I needed all 4 tires really bad.

Compare prices for the exact same tires from any old tire store out there with tire rack. You will find that the standard mark-up at NTB, Sears, Firestone, etc, etc, etc, is about 40%. All retail tire stores are SERIAL RAPISTS! spread the word!

You can then have tire rack send the tires to wherever and have them mounted and balanced for a reasonable price.

hahahaha, what mark up do you think you pay at clothing, audio, home stores....

TireRack has the best prices by far, but don't forget about shipping and mounting. You can haggle at tire stores, don't pay list price. We (Firestone)usually make around 15%-20% profit on tire sales. But I sell tires for cost all the time.

For the author of this thread, there is not really an average price. YOu could get 4 tires installed for $200. But do you really want the cheapest tires available for the Max? You could spend $800....It's more a matter of getting a good price on a good set of tires.

Is 215/65/15?
Is 225/65/15?

You could do 215 I think, which is cool, but according to the tire manufacturer, you are now "out of spec".

I bought a set of 2000 17 inchers. Factory specs call for 225/50/17, but people around here run 235/50/17. I dont think id jump to 245 though.

You can't just get a wider tire and not change the aspct ratio (2nd #). A 225/65/15 is a truck tire. You have to adjust the aspect ratio according to the width. If you want to go a bit wider, do a 215/60/15.

Did you go with those tiny ones, or did you buy new rims? Your choices were limited in the 16" size, I remember...

I ended up going with the tiny ones. They are 215/45/16.
I love them though. They grip the road like no other tire I have ever ridden on, street tire, that is.

Anyway, they look a little small, but I don't really care.
Check them out here if you want to on my site:

(look around, I have added some new pics too. I got a digital camera finally!)
