If you plan on looking at these pics, hope you have a cable modem or better. If not, be prepared to wait awhile. I gave up after 5 minutes.

Good alternative to make the dash look good. I have seen the kits for about $170. Are you worried about the paint scratching off?

How to:
Take your dash apart
sand with 400 grit
two coats of white primer
sand with 600 grit if necessary
three or four coats of krylon metallic silver
sand with 600 again if necessary
two coats of clear gloss

I used lots of paint and primer and clear. Hopefully that will prevent scratches. Plus, I'll just try to be as careful as I can.

it does take a good while to load so while I was waiting...........
I fed my 3 month old son 6oz. of milk and changed his wet diaper.....then they loaded up fine....it looks real good man did you use just regular paint or special paint so now you can say you have a "custom painted" dash "kit"

you can really fool people now with how it looks doing stuff yourself is the key.......

I painted my dash also. The cheapest alternative to a dask kit or even vinyl tape. The paint that I used is from Pep Boys and it is really durable. No chips or scratches since I have done this (since April of '00) and easy to clean.
Attached is a pic.

nice

I would consider doing this, because I've always wanted an aluminum dash kit

But I have a beige max, and I think I've only seen Chunger have a beige Max with the metal kit. And I have yet to see a really good pic of the inside so i can see how well it will look installed.

So the paint color is Krylon Metallic Silver, what kind of primer and clear gloss would you need? Sorry for all the questions, thanks for the help!

Basically, you would sand down the pieces so the paint will adhere better. In my case, when I painted the pieces, I didnt even sand them down, just made sure they were clean.

Custom Painted Dash

Yeah, I painted my dash awhile ago when i first got the car, i only did the middle pieces in white and i live in florida where it is sunny.. the pain gets hot and gets messed up.. tinting doesnt help.. because it fades and whatnot.. so just be ready to repaint many times.. i now have carbon fiber dash. boo-yeah.

I know this is a lil off topic but what's the process of painting your valve covers. I noticed that some people have red... some have blue. Is this what people mean by polishing their valve cover? As you can see i'm totally clueless.

Valve Cover

Painting your valve cover is easy, you simply remove it from the engine and clean it.. then prime it twice and spray on some nice high temp glossy paint you buy at discount auto, ace hardware, auto zone or whatever.. as far as polishing, i havent tried that yet..i know how it works but its a bit more costly.. boo-yah

I sanded the bare parts so the primer and paint would stick better. I had to sand between steps sometimes to smooth out and runs or drips in the paint as I applied it.

I live in Tucson, AZ and the heat inside the car gets up to greater than 150 F, and the sun beats down on the dash like no other, but the heat and light have no effect on the paint. I am not sure what kind of paint you were using, but mine has held up fine for the past year.

once again a bit off topic

I have seen some people here with leather seats that were painted. Anyone want to explain how to make the black seats into black/silver. What paint? Just all steps or a link.
Thanks

hmmm

are you talking about the two-tone seats?

Those were'nt pained...I think he chose black and grey as the two tones.

As for silver, apparently Leatherseats.com's latest group buy offers two-tones with a silver colour option.
