The Subject line pretty much tells the story. The alarm just activates for no apparent reason. I can't find info regarding this issue anywhere, and my son's '89 Maxima used to do the same thing all the time. He fixed his problem though... he disabled the horn!!! I'd prefer to avoid such drastic measures... hehe

 

as a matter of fact, my old 89 max used to do the exact same thing too. id get awaken in the middle of the night thinking someone was breaking into the car but no one was in sight. i finally found the culprit. it was in the trunk. the bar that swings down and opens/closes the trunk had smashed some of the alarm wires and made them short out, thus causing the alarm to go off intermittenly. there are a grouping of wires wrapped around that beam and they could be getting smashed. Check that out and if everything looks fine there, then i guess you will have to keep looking for a solution.

 

That's good info. I passed it on to my son, he's currently tinkering with his '89 (swapping many parts) so his friend can buy it. He'll check it out and let me know what he finds. I asked him to check this on the '98 (daughter's car) also.

 

Nothing apparent in the trunk of the '89. Anyone with ideas about the '98 alarm?
