Rear engine mount, Is it hollow ? ***

Hey guys, I'm pretty sure my rear engine mount is becoming less and less stiff. They are no cracks in it at all, no oil... but The engine tends to move a lot around the engine bay when shifting or re applying the throttle... What I want to do is remove the mount, fill it with expoxy and then see how it goes... Anyone tried that already ?<

Thanks,

Charancon

I have epoxy filled front and rear mounts. Most people use an 80A durometer polyurethane, which is softer than epoxy. I have had both, and I prefer the harder epoxy filled mounts. They reduce wheel hop to nothing and there is only a barely discernible increase in vibration at idle.

I forgot to mention, I have a newly filled set of mounts, filled with polyurethane, for sale. $175.

Hi Stephen, thx for replying. Where would I get that epoxy ? Is it normal auto body repair expoxy available at any car store ?

Thanks

I use the West System epoxy developed for repairing boat hulls, since that is what I had left over from doing some glass work on my catamaran. Great stuff but kind of expensive.

I'm sorry, I'm a bit ignorant... Are there holes in the mounts where you fill the epoxy ? Mine is a 1996 GXE, 5 spd. I dont seem to see any holes when looking at the front mount when I open the hood... Do I need to cut the mount open ? Create holes ?

Anyone ?

PS, do you think high strength fiberglass would do the trick ?
