Is this a good buy? (newbie here)

Been looking for a few months for a Max, I wanted a 4th gen 5 speed SE. Never found anything close until today. I mean CLOSE like 2 miles away. Its kind of an oddball I never seen one like this. Its a 1999 SE Limited with 5 speed and its loaded with everything except leather. What's strange is the color-its bright red and its certainly the factory color I checked it close. It also has a dark grey cloth interior which I really like too. The only thing I don't like is it has high miles, 118,000. Still the car wasn't abused and they were probably highway miles. It drives and shifts perfectly. They are gonna detail it, fix a few paint chips and put 4 new tires on it plus PA inspection and emissions. They are asking $8000 and after talking with him he said "cash talks" meaning I can get it for a bit less. The miles are kinda high and the price isn't that great but this car looks sweet with that red color..........plus its a 1999. I might get it tomorrow......... Is this car really an oddball with that color? I'll pay a little more for a car this close to home also.

I live in Cincinnati, and there's a decent amount of bright red 4th gens around here. Actually, that's not a terrible price (when I was shopping for a Max in the fall and winter of 02 the 97s and 98s were going for around $8000. I, however, scored an incredible deal because of an error in their paperwork. They only made a $75 profit on my car!) ... don't be afraid of the miles - it'll run forever if you take care of its maintenance. AND PLAY HARDBALL WITH HIM!!! You can get him down into the $7000s. Besides, they're sweetening the deal with FOUR new tires and a full detail (worth about $500 - $600).

well, if they get new tires and all that and your TOTAL with registration and taxes comes out to $8k, then i guess its a good deal.

Its an oddball color only in the sense that it was available as a special color for the SEL trim. Looks hot on a Max i think. Also not many have it so its original. i would haggle over that price, im sure u can talk him down a little. thats about right tho for 1999 max prices -the miles according to resale values. most 97-99 max's are in the 7-10k range depending on year, miles, condition, blaa blaa blaa....

I paid 9800 for my '97 SE 5-speed about 8 months ago.

But it was in great condition with 4 new tires, 4 new rotors and brakes, and with just under 50k miles.

I know its a lot but the car was so perfect. And black is so sexy. I had to do it, no regrets.

And the red '99 SE-L look sick, I love that color.

That's the crimson red youre talking about...man, wish I could find a red max here in montreal....but no luck. Seems like a good deal if you can get the price a lil lower. good luck!
