OK. My battery died the other day. I jumped it and drove it for a while. It started well today, and then I had the dome lights on (but not even accessory on) for 20 minutes while I was changing a piece of the dash, and it lost its charge. So I'm going to buy a new battery. Any suggestions as to brand, or the basics of what size or quality? I don't want to get trash, as I want this to be as reliable as Maximas should be, but if Walmart is good enough then that's fine with me. I hope it's not the alternator. Recommendations, please? Thanks a lot!

Well... if you're not running a system or lots of neons/strobes/etc, then a regular battery should be fine.

My original battery died two years ago. And I got a Midas Gold battery and it's been running just fine for the past two years.

If you are running a system, you should check out the Optima Redtops.

Actually, Consumers Reports tested Walmart batteries and they turned out to be pretty good. Actually all batteries are pretty good. When my stock battery died (after three and a half years), I bought an Exide Nascar battery. Works like a charm, and car starts much quicker now.

cold cranking amps and starting

I have a question about this--how quick our cars start in relation to the number of cold cranking amps of the battery. Is it true that if a battery has more cold cranking amps, then the car will start faster?
I was just wondering. I have an AC-DELCO in my car and I just took a careful look and it has 475 CCA's--which is pretty good I guess but when I have the headlights and things like that on, and I close all the windows, I do see the dome lights dim a bit--is that related to the battery or is that something common?

if you have a sam's club in your area, the batteries are pretty cheap there. i got a champion "titanium" 5000 battery from there for $40. i think it is something like 725cca/850ca -- something much higher than the factory battery. i dont think it made the car start any faster; i think the higher number relates to how long the battery will last if you keep cranking it...
