OK i was at Wal-Mart today and saw a bottle of NOS in the automotive section. It was just a small bottle that you are supposed to pour into a full tank of gas and it works for that whole tanks by giving you more HP and all that stuff for that tank of gas. Does this really work or is this a bucnh of crap? Ive never heard of this before and was just wondering if it was for real or not. Let me know if anyone has heard about this or knows something about it. Thanks

well

to my knowledge you put it in your gas and its boosts your octane, its good but dont expect anything incredable.

NOS bottle

Yeah, it's probably over the counter snake oil, but the bottle looks real cool. I would consider buying one and dumping out the contents and then mounting the bottle in the trunk. Tell dumb a$$es that it's a 5 shoot N2O kit. Tell them you can hook em up for the low low price of $100.
Complete the "install", give them a race (let them kick you ***)and laugh all the way to the bank.

But the Racing formula of the Octane booster does work. Go to Yahoo and type in Octane boosters. There is one particular Australian website that has a 1999 comparison of over the counter octane boosters. The NOS racing formula does in fact raise the octane by almost 2.0 points. It came in 5th place out of 13 different boosters. AMSOIL's series 2000 came in 3rd place.
The NOS racing formula contains MMT, which when used frequently can create orange-red deposit on your spark pluge. MMT has also been determined to increase internal engine deposits with prolonged use.
Bottom line, try it for 2 tanks and see the difference. I noticed a nice improvement with my Audi. Engine pulled stronger in the high rpm range, and it became very easy to bouce the engine off it's rev limiter. Increasing the octane will allow the engine to advance it's timing curve. Usually, the engine will begin to ping, and the ecu will retard the timing slightly at higher revs to prevent excessive pinging. The octane boost will lessen the pinging, so the ecu won't have to retard timing as much.
This will have the effect of more HP, as there isn't as much being taken out due to the ecu's reduction in timing.

NOS is just a brand of octane booster. It does boost your octane level, but whether you can notice a difference in acceleration is questionable. It may help to stop knocking/pinging though. My previous car was a 94 Z28 bored .30 over. I used octane booster in it occasionally, but it didn't seem to make much of a difference.
