H.I.D. idea

i had a thought the other day that in theory could solve our H.I.D problems. why dont we just get an hid kit for our fog lights? because this would still allow for the use of your brights and wouldnt have to worry about our housing scattering all of the light. This is just an idea though made by someone that isnt very knowledgeable when it comes to lights. So why or why not would this idea work?

If your idea is to put HIDs in the fogs, its been done, someone on here has HIDs in both headlights and foglights. I think its a good idea, I know I wouldnt want to lose my highbeams.

well you could get both but then you lose your high beams. also ive heard that our headlight housings suck which is why if your gonna go full into the hids you should get projectors. but would the light output for your fog light hids be the same as headlight hids?

I wouldn't put HID in the fogs. The fog pattern is low and wide, but short.

If you swapped out the fogs for driving lights, like pencil beam, I think HID would be a good investment.

for now, just put brighter bulbs in the fogs. I'm running true 100w bulbs by Mtec in my driving lights right now. Nothing melts, as long as you clean and grease the contacts well.

Our fog light housings and headlight housings CANNOT SUPPORT HID's!!!!! They are meant for halogen bulbs..

Formz is doing a great retro in his maxima. AMG e55 bixenon for the headlights, and audi H3 projector fog lights(Non HID). He should have one sweet set up when he is done..

As good as that set up looks, it just for looks...

I'm sure a properly done HID projector setup will put more usable light down the road..

True they don't...it's all for looks. HIDS are no good with projectors. It's like having your brights on all the time. It's a pain to have drivers flash you and talk to you about your lights being too bright.

I agree... I blind everyone and it really sucks. If someone made projector lights for the 4th gen they would make a fortune. Plus making your own headlights isnt easy (at least it wasnt for me) and installing R32 projector headlights is a bit tricky.

There's an eBay store that sells headlights for 4th gens, and it offers some that don't have the reflectors on the inside (I think). If the reflectors are the main problem when it comes to blinding people, I wonder if these would be better for HIDs ...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33710

Also, I remember Formz saying that it's the reflector on the bottom that's the biggest culprit when it comes to blinding others. Anyone have thoughts or experience on the idea of keeping all of the reflectors except the one on the bottom (painting it or something)?

they make sheild that cover the bottom of the bulb. I will say HID without projectors do put out tons more usuable light. My hid kit i better than any halegon bulb i have ever tried and i have the aimed down a bit so they do not blind other pople, i never get flashed.

i also aimed my right headlight alittle in so it is not as blinding.

I know i do nto have proper hids with projectors and i know i do not reap the beifits of hid without projectors but i got the kit for $100 and it was the best money i have spent on the car.
