painting dash
#2
I got all the plastic in my dash painted while my car was in for bodywork, so the guy just painted the dash bits at the same time as the car. Don’t bother trying to do it with spraypaint and clearcoat, thats what I did on my first attempt and it looked like ****e compared to what I have now.
BUT if you are forced to do it yourself, you can only really do the hard plastic that you can remove, not the mushy vinyl stuff. Wash with ajax or comet to get rid of all oils, then scuff lightly with 200 or so grit. Lay down a light coat of primer, then your colour, then let it set up and shoot the clear. Make sure to let it dry COMPLETLY before you install it, also make sure to do several very light coats not one heavy one.
If you want the paint the "squshi" plastic dash parts, Im not sure how you would manage without getting overspray all over your car.
Heres a shot of my interior after the bodyshop got their hands on it.
