knock sensor...bosch?

Sorry if this has already been covered but I couldn't search.

I need to replace knock sensor on 97 max.

1. Can I use bosch sensor instead of OEM?
2. Is $132 (free shipping) for bosch from maximum parts a good price and are they reputable?
http://www.maximumautoparts.com/
3. Do I also need to replace the wiring harness?
4. For $158 plus shipping I can get Nissan knock sensor with harness, is this a better idea or waste of money?

thanks for any help

Id go with the OEM unit.
Its not really necessary to swap out the harness but not a bad idea. You can always test the harness.
I have a used KS for sale if your interested.http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....94#post3133994

I haven't even looked at the sensor yet, so far I just downloaded the instructions and started to price out KS.

You can get an OEM KS from jerry rome nissan for ~$140 shipped. Put "maxima" in for the discount code. There was a group deal. Since the org was down I don't know what is going on with it.

I couldn't wait for shipping so I went to Superior Nissan and picked one up for $163.

Yes, i only had 1 wire in the harness.

If you want to check your harness, put 1 lead on the harness, and the other lead on PIN 64 of your ecu harness. Check for continuity. I did that... no problems. So I swapped out my KS. If your harness was truely bad, your MIL will come on.

Oh yeah, if you've got small hands you don't needa remove the intake stuff. I used the closed angled end of a 12mm wrench. Then torqued it loose w/a rachet extension. Its probably like 20lb/ft, pretty easy to remove. Leave the harness on while you do it, so you don't lose the KS.

Thanks I just ordered that one on ebay. I will replace the KS and then get the cpu cleared and hopefully it will have solved the problem.

I had autozone run the test and it came up with the KS and an O2, but they said replace the KS because it could be causing the 02 to be kicked off as a result of it retarding the timing.

Does that seem right and would using 89-90 octane cause a knock and the knock senson to go off?

thanks

Did they tell you which O2 sensor it was? Cuz I got a KS code and replaced mine, but my idle is really really low. The FSM says idle could be screwed up if the front (left and right) O2 are dead.

I run 91 octane gas and get knocking... but that's cuz anything besides Chevron gas gives me knocks.

The code was 0707=Rear Heated O2 sensor

I've had problems in the past with O2 sensors, several times my light kicked on during long road trips. I talked with a mechanic who said they can be very senstive and falsely set off and told me if after 30 times of "good" starts the code will clear. And it usually has until this latest KS, so I'm hoping after I get the KS replaced it will also "fix" the O2 problem.

Does that seem logically or just wishful thinking?
