HELP! clutch problem

hey guys
my clutch easily goes all the way to the floor, and i can't even put the car into gear from neutral. i don't even have to put any force to push the clutch pedal down. i noticed it just yesterday but the car went into gear fine. then this morning when i tried to drive the car out of the garage, the shifter would'nt even go into the gates. would you guys happen to know what my problem is, or any thoughts on what i should do? thanks

i appreciate the replies guys. I asked a friend who knows cars pretty well. He says it could be the hydraulics? i don't know much about transmissions but i've gone to get an estimate and they said 400-450 for fixing the hydraulics. has anyone had teh same problems? any kind of apply would be great

thanks

If you have a CAI or any intake upgrade under the hood you will be able to see your tranny from looking straight down.....grab the fork attached to the clutch slave cylinder and wiggle it a little bit towards the left then back out. Then push clutch to floor and manually pull it back up with the topside of your toes behind the pedal. Should help.

Sounds like you have air in the hydraulic system. Check the clutch fluid level and also check under the dash at the clutch pedal pushrod (master cylinder) to see if it is wet. Usually it will leak fluid down the firewall. Then pull back the rubber boot on the slave cylinder (the one attached to the transmission) to see if it is wet. 450 seems kind of steep unless they are replacing both master and slave cylinders.

i'll take that $400 for the 3min and $1 it will cost to fix the issue. If you don't know much about it and people told you to check it, why did you not do a search on it? Do you just want to throw your money away? Anyhow.. The system is basic..
1. Internal tranny issue: Gears are actually damaged. Usually you will have all the gears but 1 at first and as the shards work through the tranny all will die.
2. Clutch/Pressure failure- You will be able to get in gear but your car won't go just as if you had the clutch pushed in
3. Hydrolic system failure. This is quite typical more on slave cylinder failure then master. When you push in your pedal it compresses fluid through a line when extends a poiston connected to your fork (This is what releases the tranny from the motor so you can change gears) If you have a leak then the fluid won't be there.. Obviously... And there is nothing to compress to extend the cylinder.. The parts to this system and cheap and easily to replace for the most part.. $50 per part and only has 3 parts (only one of which has failed) ..Here is the crappy part.. the system has no Air... and bleeding is a *****.

I had the same problem, except the clutch gave out right at a stop light.

It ends up I needed a new slave cylinder, it was leaking. But I had the problem temporarily fixed by "bleeding" the clutch, I think that's what it's called. It worked for a good 2 months then I noticed same symptoms of the clutch pedal failing again, and took it in for a check to see what's up, and it was the slave cylinder.

thanks for the helpful replies guys.....i brought it to one shop and they quoted me $1,000 cause they said i needed to replace the pressure plate, slave cylinder, AND master clinder!.....i decided to have a second shop check it, and they told me it was a line between the slave cylinder, and the master cylinder. they quoted me at $650-700. does this sound about right to you guys?

thanks

by the way...the search link was'nt working at the time...sorry
