PSI on tires

I have 215/40/18 Tires. I know the 215 is a bad size for the max, but that's what I got for now. I was wondering what the PSI should be if i'm runnin' on 18's with the size tires I have. When I "accidently" hit the accelerater to fast, it sometimes makes a screetching sound because of the tires. Not sure because it was 215 tires or cuz the PSI isn't high enough on them right now...
